It was a full-blown food fight at the Airport Area YMCA as mayors pro tem from Hurst, Euless and Bedford competed in a cupcake eating contest. No cheating was allowed as a Mr. T. impersonator watched over it all. The winner had to eat 26 mini-cupcakes the fastest. The mini-cupcakes were organized in a way that spelled YMCA. After they ate each letter, they had to pause and make corresponding arm gestures before moving on to the next letter. (Y, M, C, A) The champ was Bedford's Amy Sabol. "The event helped kick off the annual campaign for the Airport Area YMCA which has raised $31k, 38% of the total goal. Funds are raised through pledges and donations. The money raised will support local families, seniors or individuals who request scholarships to access programs, camps, and memberships. We never want cost to be a barrier to health and community. The YMCA is open to ALL," said YMCA Chief Marketing Officer Christy Jones in an email. Man arrested after police say he threatened Euless elementary school, prompted lockdown By Jamie Landers 3:43 PM on Oct 19, 2022 A man was arrested Monday after Euless police say he threatened the safety of Oakwood Terrace Elementary School this month, prompting a lockdown and increased campus security. Jerrekus Rishawn Pendelton, 34, was booked into the Tarrant County jail on a felony charge of making a terroristic threat. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Police didn’t provide any details about the threat made against the school Oct. 5 but said it went into a brief lockdown about 12:30 p.m. before students had a controlled- release dismissal. District spokeswoman Deanne Hullender said an increased police presence in the area in the following days as authorities searched for Pendelton was out of an “abundance of caution.” “We would like to express our gratitude to the Texas Attorney General’s Office Fugitive Squad for their relentless search for this fugitive that led to his capture,” the Euless Police Department said on Facebook. Pendelton remained in jail Wednesday, with bail set at $15,000. Police make arrest in connection to terroristic threat at elementary school in Euless BY CBS DFW STAFF OCTOBER 19, 2022 / 3:43 PM / CBS DFW EULESS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Euless police have made an arrest in connection to a terroristic threat toward Oakwood Terrace Elementary. Jerrekus Pendleton was arrested on Oct. 17 and is in custody at the Tarrant County Jail. Euless police posted on social media saying they express their gratitude to the Texas Attorney General's Office Fugitive Squad for their "relentless search for this fugitive that led to his capture." On Oct. 6, police issued a warrant for Pendleton, who they say made a felony terroristic threat to the elementary school. Man arrested for making terroristic threat against Euless elementary school EULESS, Texas - Euless police arrested a man on Monday accused of issuing a terroristic threat against an elementary school earlier this month. Jerrekus Pendleton, 35, is currently in the Tarrant County Jail being held on $15,000 bond. The threat was against Oakwood Terrace Elementary in Euless on Oct. 5. The school temporarily went into lockdown until students were released. Court documents say Pendleton threatened to go to the school with other men and assault rifles and kill the children of his ex-girlfriend because he claimed she owed him money. On Oct. 5, police say the mother of two students called the principal at Oakwood Terrace Elementary school in the HEB ISD, saying her ex-boyfriend made threats to the school. Brenda Alvarado with the Euless Police Department says the principal of the school alerted them. "Most of the time, we get tips from students about a potential threat. In this case, it was a bit different coming from a parent," she said. Court documents say the principal was told Pendleton allegedly had masks and assault rifles. The documents also say a neighbor allegedly saw him with the weapons. Investigators say Pendleton himself called the school asking if two of the children were at the school. His name was not on the approved list, and the children’s mother was called. The school was immediately placed on lockdown. "Our officers were on a first name basis with some of our principals. They have our phone numbers, and so it helps communication really fast," Alvarado said. "We were able to set up a secure perimeter at the school very quickly." Court documents paint a vivid image of what types of threats were made. One text said, "I’ll hate have to do something that will end me [up emoji] in prison forever over some little azz [money bag emoji]." The texts went on to say, "I bet you I make the news. [smiley face thinking emoji] school or work." Court records say Pendleton, who is a convicted felon with several previous weapons convictions, then sent the mother a screenshot image from Google Maps of the contact information for the elementary school. The texts continued, "my and 2 [explitive] with assault rifles ready to [firecracker emoji] tf out. Taking everything out this bihh police [police emoji] pull [up emoji] whole shootout." "This wasn’t just a case of us getting information and hearing it third party," Alvarado said. "We actually saw text messages and heard voicemails of that individual making those threats." When officers took the mother to the police department, they say Pendleton continued to call her phone from a blocked number. "We had some phone conversations with him," Alvarado said. "He did not turn himself in, so we did work with the Texas attorney general’s fugitive squad in locating his whereabouts and took him into custody this Monday." Investigators say the night before the threats were made, investigators say Pendleton allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, and Fort Worth police responded. Jerrekus Pendleton faces a charge of making a terroristic threat, according to Tarrant County Jail records. He’s being held on $15,000 bond after he was captured with the assistance of the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Squa d, police said. No one was injured, but additional Euless police officers were placed at Oakwood Terrace Elementary, 700 Ranger Drive, as a precaution after the threat. North Texas Mayors & Salvation Army Combine Forces Posted on October 19, 2022 (WBAP/KLIF) — As thousands are continuing to struggle with the impacts of inflation, the Salvation Army has teamed up with North Texas mayors to provide love and service to those in need. The partnership, announced Wednesday morning in Arlington, involves a friendly competition, as the mayors will serve as Salvation Army bell ringers. According to Salvation Army Spokesman Ryan Barrera, the mayors will compete in a friendly fund- raising competition for bragging rights in North Texas. Last year’s fund-raising champion was Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans who raised a little over $100,000 during one day of bell-ringing. The entire competition raised upwards of $137,000 in 2021. Police investigating Thursday shooting in Euless; suspect not in custody BY JAMES HARTLEY ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 20, 2022 10:01 PM Police in Euless were investigating a shooting in the 600 block of East Ash Lane Thursday afternoon, with no reported injuries. Officers were searching for the suspect, who fled on foot from the residential a rea southwest of DFW Airport. Police did not say if anybody was injured or what led up to the shooting, and did not respond to a Star-Telegram request for information. Police search for 18-year-old suspect accused in Euless shooting that injured teen BY DOMINGO RAMIREZ JR. ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 21, 2022 11:16 AM UPDATED OCTOBER 21, 2022 2:35 PM An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for an 18 -year-old suspect accused of being involved in a shooting at an apartment complex that left a 16 -year-old wounded. Euless police identified the suspect they’re searching for as Daivien Emerson, who is about 5-foot-7 and weighs about 155 pounds. The warrant charges Emerson with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Two other suspects are in custody related to the shooting, but Euless police did not release any information on them. The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of East Ash Lane in Euless. The 16-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and he was taken to a local hospital. The gunman, who was wearing a black hooded jacket and black sweatpants, ran away from the scene, Euless police said. Several witnesses were on scene and were able to positively identify the suspect as Daivien Emerson, police said. The shooting “stemmed from a running argument between the suspect and the victim,” a police spokesperson said.
