Euless City Council
Setpember 7, 1957
The City Council of the City of Euless,
Texas, met in regular session on Saturday, September 7, 1957, at 7:30 p.m.
Mayor Millican presided with Councilmen
G. L. Anders, J. S. Anderson, S. H. Cadenhead, Paul Horton, and W. 0.
Murray present.
Guests of the Council for various reasons
were Rev. Clayton Lewis, pastor of First Methodist Church, who led the body
in opening prayer; Attorney B i I I Bondurant, City Attorney; Chief of Police
Sustaire, and Mr. Grady Riggs, representing Brown Limousine Lines.
Councilman Anderson offered a motion,
seconded by Councilman Anders that the Chief of Police be authorized
to arrange for any signs he deems necessary in and around the school zones
and put same into operation with or without the aid of school officials.
The motion was adopted.
On a motion by Councilman Cadenhead,
seconded by Councilman Murray, the City Secretary was instructed to have an
extension phone installed in the office of Chief of Police. The motion was
adopted .
Councilman Cadenhead offered another
motion, seconded by Councilman Horton, that Ordinance No. 83, approving the
annexation of the first increment of Midway Park Addition to the City of
Euless, Texas, be adopted. The motion was adopted.
Councilman Anderson made a motion, Council-
man Cadenhead seconding it, that Ordinance No. 84, identified as the vagrancy
ordinance, be adopted and effective upon its date of adoption and due
publication as required by law. The adoption of Ordinance No. 84 was
unanimous.
Another motion by Councilman Anderson,
seconded by Councilman Cadenhead, proposed that the City Secretary be
instructed to pay the b i l l of $65.27 presented by Walls Clothiers for
police uniforms, and beginning the third quarter following Chief of Police
Sustaire's date of employment, $9.73 be paid Chief of Police Sustaire for
purpose of purchasing uniforms, after which $25.00 w i l l be paid on uniforms
purchased each quarter. The motion was adopted.
On a motion by
Councilman
Cadenhead,
seconded by Councilman
Anders, it was moved that
the Chief of
Police be
authorized to exercise
his own judgement in the
placing and
erection of speed
signs and school signs
and that he be authorized
further to
make the purchase
o f any and a l l signs and materials necessary in
the erection
of such signs.
The motion was adopted.
Councilman Anderson offered a motion,
seconded by Councilman Anders that the Chief of Police be authorized

On a motion by Councilman Cadenhead,

Councilman Horton further motioned that
regular council meetings be changed from the first Saturday of each month
to the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., beginning with the second
Tuesday in October, or the next regular meeting. With a second by
Councilman Anders, the motion was adopted. (City Secretary gave the
information to the Mid - Cities News for publication.)
It was moved by Councilman Horton, and
seconded by Councilman Anders, that the City pay a b i I I of $7.50 for the
servicing of the radio in the police cars from April through August.
The motion was adopted.
Councilman Horton made a motion, seconded
by Councilman Murray, that the City pay for the spot light on the patrol
car. The motion was adopted.
The City Secretary was instructed to pay
$89.25 on the water fountain in the Fire Hall as per agreement in past
m i nutes .
A final motion by Councilman Horton,
seconded by Councilman Anders, would authorize the Building Commissioner
t o discontinue the use of temporary authorization t o the u t i l i t y companies
when a building permit is issued, discontinue requiring a placard to be
placed on each unit or house where one developer or builder is building
several houses under a bulk permit, and discontinue requiring the builders
of residences to procure a certificate of occupancy before the house can
be occupied. The motion was adopted.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
