HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-09-12Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board September 12, 2022 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:02 p.m.. On Monday, September, 12, 2022, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Magen Brown, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes and Isha Sharma. Members absent: John Raab and Kay Seger. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Daniel Dearborn and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: Council Member Jeremy Tompkins INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August 01, 2022 regular meeting. Steve Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Roger Sickler. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown — Reflection & Villages of Bear Creek: No items to report. b. Steve Doty — Heritage & S. Euless: No items to report. c. John Raab — Preserve & McCormick: Not present. d. Roger Sickler — J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. f. Kay Seger — Midway & Blessing Branch: Not present. g. Isha Sharma — West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. h. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 11. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for August 1st— August 31st 2022: a. Total man hours for August 1st — August 31st = 460 • 122 Horticulture • 244 Forestry • 74 Greenhouse • 0 Special Projects • 20 Training ➢ Irrigation repair at Senior Center, Rec Center and Pauline green house ➢ Replaced valves at Trailwood, DQ Corner, and Dog Park ➢ Added trail products to Heritage Park trails and riprap to new bridges ➢ Mulched beds on Main St. medians, The Green Belt, and Fair Oaks ➢ Removed 1 dead tree on Fannin, 3 at Blessing Branch and 1 at Trailwood ➢ Trimmed hedges at Animal Control, J.A. Carr, South Euless, Finance, City Hall, and Library ➢ Trimmed trees at Fire Administration and City Hall ➢ Installed solar light at Westpark Playground ➢ Installed new pond fountains at Wilshire Park ➢ Installed new bench/shade shelter at Blessing Branch ➢ Training on new skid steer and mulcher III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Parks Report — Daniel Dearborn • Daniel Dearborn informed the Park Board on a recent post on the Nextdoor App. The citizen wanted to thank the Parks department for clearing up a tree that had fallen all in the time she completed her walk. • Daniel Dearborn presented pictures on the new bridges that were installed at Heritage Park. • Daniel Dearborn let the Park Board know that during the few days of rain we had some significant flooding. The Parks crew was able to have all issues from the flooding cleared within half of a day. • Daniel Dearborn presented the Bench Shade structure that was built at Blessing Branch. Daniel Dearborn stated that the trail connection will connect and be ADA accessible. b. Community Services Report — Ray McDonald • Ray McDonald gave the senior center report for the month of August. 3,602 visits to the Senior Center. 5,371 in program attendance including Bingo, Bunco, Zumba, Pilates, Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 Yoga, Sin N Fit, Arts & Crafts and Mystery Lunch. Mystery lunch was a trip to Harvest Hall in Grapevine and 31 seniors attended. • Ray McDonald reported on the Recreation Center fall programs which will include youth NFL Flag Football, Baseball combine, Speed School, Zumba and an expansion on the highly sought-after tumbling program. • Ray McDonald reported that in August there were 6,656 total visits to the Recreation center. 372 Racquetball visits, 1,270 track visits, 3,529 basketball gym visits and 5,647 fitness center visits. • Ray McDonald gave an update on the upcoming Special Events which will include Floats & Flicks that will take place on Friday, October 14tn at 5:30 pm, Friday, November 11tn at 7:00 pm and Friday, December 2nd at 5:30 pm. Trunk or Treat will take place on Saturday, October 22"d. The Annual Parade of Lights will take place on Saturday, December 3rd and the Heritage Park Christmas will take place on Saturday, December 101n • Ray McDonald informed the Park Board that on Thursday, September 15tn at 6:30 there will be a Parks presentation on Low Maintenance Landscape and that all members are welcome to attend. • Ray McDonald let the Park Board know that on 10/3 we can start issuing Purchase Orders for the upcoming projects. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IIII. Other New Business • No new business to report. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors • Council member Jeremy Tompkins reported that everyone was approved on the Boards & Commission and wanted to say that everyone is doing a great job.
