HomeMy WebLinkAbout67-180 05-23-1967RESOLUTION NO. 180 WHEREAS, the Euless City Council has been petitioned pursuant to Aral.e 1189, Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas to order an election for the purpose of voting on the consolidation of the City of Bedford into and as a part of the City of Euless, Tarrant County, Texas, and WHEREAS, the Euless City Council has determined that the City of Euless and the City of Bedford are adjoining and contiguous incorporated cities in Tarrant County, Texas, and WHEREAS, pursuant to Title 28, Chapter 15, Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, the Euless City Council has determined to call such consolidation election for the purpose of consolidating the City of Bedford into and as a part of the City of Euless under one government with the con- solidated city to be known as Euless; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: I. That the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this 23rd day of May, 1967, does hereby order an election to be held on Saturday, June 24, 1967, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Euless, Texas, the following proposition: "Shall the City of Bedford, Texas, be consolidated into the City of Euless, Texas ?" That the City Secretary shall have the ballots printed as soon as practicable following the adoption of this Resolution. The ballots to be used in said consolidation election shall be prepared in the manner and form as provided in the Euless City Charter and the Election Code of the State of Texas. The ballot shall contain the proposition as follows: "Shall the City of Bedford, Texas, be consolidated into the City of Euless, Texas? FOR CONSOLIDATION. AGAINST CONSOLIDATION." ITEM I X Council Minutes May 23, 1967 II . For the purpose of said election, the entire City of Euless is hereby constituted one voting precinct. The polling place for said election shall be the Euless City Hall located at 201 Ector Drive in said City and said election shall be held between the hours of 7 :00 o'clock a.m. and 7:00 o'clock p.m. on June 24, 1967. The following persons are hereby appointed to act as election officials and clerks: Mrs. Reba Cromer , Election judge Mrs. Iris Elliott , Assistant Election judge Mrs. Billy Owens , Clerk Mrs. Eunice Anderson , Clerk , Clerk , Clerk IV. All qualified voters within the meaning of the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas who have resided in the State -Dof Texas for a period of one year and in the City of Euless for a period of six months prior to the date of such election herein provided for shall be entitled to vote at such election. V. Voting by absentee ballot in said election shall commence on the 5th day of June, 1967, at the office of the City Secretary in the City of Euless, Texas. Voting by absentee ballot shall close at 5:00 o'clock p.m. on the 19th day of June, 1967. VI. The City Secretary shall have printed a sufficient number of paper ballots containing the proposition set forth in paragraph I of this Resolution to be used for absentee voting. Voting on the election date, June 24, 1967, shall be conducted by the use of voting machines as provided by Article 7.14, et seq. of the Texas Election Code. The City Secretary shall obtain a sufficient number of voting machines from the Commissioners Court and County Clerk of Tarrant County, Texas. The machines shall be examined, prepared. operated and the voting conducted pursuant to the provisions of the Texas Election Code pertaining to voting machines. The ballot boxes containing the absentee ballots and the voting machines shall be delivered and preserved pursuant to the provisions of the Texas Election Code and all election returns, records and supplies shall be preserved by the City Secretary in her office as by law provided. The City Council shall meet to canvass the returns of said election and declare the official results thereof promptly upon receipt of the election returns. The canvass of the returns and declaration of the results by the City Council shall take place on the 24th day of June, 1967, as soon as practicle after the polls have closed, the ballots counted and the returns certified by the election judge. VII. The Mayor is hereby directed to give notice of said election which shall be signed by the Mayor under the attest of the City Secretary stating that the election is called for the purpose of voting on the proposition of consolidation of the City of Bedford into and as a part of the City of Euless and the Chief of Police shall post a properly executed copy of the election proclamation at the polling place provided herein and two copies at two other public places within the City. Such notices shall have attached thereto a certified copy of this Resbiution. VIII. Said election shall be held and conducted in accordance with the City Charter and the laws of the State of Texas for the holding of general elections for State and County offices except as otherwise provided by Chapter 15, Title 28, of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas.
