HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-10-08217 Regular Meeting Euless City Council October 8, 1957 The City Council met in regular session on October 8, 1957, at 7:30 p.m. Presiding was Mayor Mi l l ican with Councilmen J. S. Anderson, S. H. Cadenhead, Paul Hortsn and W. 0. Murray present and voting. Guests of the Council for various purposes were Rev. Glenn Hilburn, pastor of the First Baptist Church, who led the meeting in opening prayer; Attorney Bondurant, Postmaster Robert Nail, F i r e Chief A. B. G i l l , Chief of Police W. M. Sustaire, Messrs. J. H. Neighbors and Wray Brown, representing Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Sonny Mathis o f the Hurst Police Department, W i l l Jones and Curtis McCaffity. Councilman Anderson offered a motion, seconded by Councilman Cadenhead, that Mr. Curtis McCaffity be issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity authorizing the collection of garbage, effective November 1, 1957• The motion was adopted by majority vote of three for, one opposing. Councilman Murray opposed the motion. On a motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Horton, Sonny Mathis was hired by the City of Euless to serve warrants. The salary to be based on the number of warrants served each month. With a minimum salary of $100.00 per month and a maximum salary of $200.00 per month, the salary would vary: 0 to 15 warrants served per month, $100.00; 16 to 25 warrants served per month, $150.00 and 26 to 30 warrants served per month, $200.00. The effective date is October 16, 1957. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Councilman Anderson offered a motion, with a second from councilman Cadenhead, that the City of Euless employ Circle Communications Company on a contract basis, the City to pay to the Circle Communications Company $6.70 monthly for which Circle Communications agrees t o service the r a d i o in the C i t y p a t r o l car continuously, a t Euless, a l l necessary parts and service to be cared for by this monthly payment of $6.70. The motion was adopted, to begin November 1, 1957. Councilman Cadenhead moved, with a second from Councilman Anderson, that Chief of Police shall have no riders other than himself and those on official business, in the patrol car. The motion was adopted. Another motion by Councilman Cadenhead moved that Ordinance No. 86, annexing Euless- Bedford Road (County Road 3020) be approved. The motion was seconded by Councilman Horton and was unanimously adopted . Councilman Cadenhead offered a motion, seconded by Councilman Murray, that salary and working agreement with City Secretary Kennard be revised as follows: Kennard be paid $200.00 monthly and a $25.00 per month expense account, effective October 1, 1957, 218 (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless City Council, October 8, 1957) eliminating the past agreement whereby Mr. Kennard received a percentage of building permits. Mr. Kennard agreed to spend a minimum of six hours daily on the j o b , attend a l l court meetings and City Council meetings as in the past, Saturday work to be optional with him and a two weeks paid vacation in the event his services are continued beyond May 1, 1958. The motion was adopted. On a final motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Horton, the City Council unanimously approved the action of Street Commissioner J. S. Anderson, in accepting the street improvements on Ross Avenue, Ross Cannon Addition to the City of Euless. The City Secretary so notified Floyd West & Company of Dallas who had asked for the information. The City Secretary notified Circle Communications Company of City's agreement for servicing radio and asked for a reply. Attest : /s/ Thos. A.
