Wanted: Teen Court
Volunteers
The H.E.B. Teen Court is looking for adult and teen
volunteers. Volunteering for Teen Court is a great
way to serve your community. The minimum age
for teen volunteers is 13. Teens and adults work
together to provide defendants the opportunity to take
responsibility for their actions, while learning about the
justice system. Teen volunteers learn public speaking
skills, interviewing techniques and administrative
skills. Local attorneys and the Teen Court Coordinator
combine their time and talents to provide all teen
volunteers with thorough training.
Teen Court is a peer program that allows juvenile first
offenders with Class C misdemeanors an alternative in
the criminal justice system. Teen volunteers serve as
the attorneys, bailiffs and clerks, while adult volunteers
assist during court sessions as jury monitors and judges.
You are welcome to visit any Teen Court session to
observe and find out more about our program. If
interested, call the Teen Court office at 817-952-2468.

in the lobby of the Police Department. Safely dispose
of all expired, unwanted or unused medications in
the unit. You may drop off prescription and over-

solutions, injectables and syringes will not be
accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood
borne pathogens.
The MedReturn unit is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday at the Euless Police Station
at 1102 West Euless Boulevard.
Residents can now also safely mail their unused
medication with the Single Use Disposal System

Building at 201 N. Ector Drive, pick up a TakeAway
envelope 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and drop

How to Protect the 4 Ps in
Freezing Weather
Winter is here, so it's time to review the 4 Ps (people,
pets, plants and pipes) and how to protect them when
the temperature drops below freezing.
People:
• If you lose power, wear layers of clothing (including
gloves and hats) to stay warm and use blankets or
sleeping bags.
• Never turn on your car in the garage as a way to
stay warm.
• Never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
• Never turn on an outdoor grill inside the house
to generate heat.
• Never operate a generator inside the home, including
the basement or garage.
Pets:
• Bring outdoor dogs and cats inside when it is 45
degrees or colder, especially if the pets are ill, young,
old, thin or have short fur.
• If you can't bring pets inside, provide them with
a warm, insulated shelter with the opening pointed
away from the wind and ensure that their water
isn't frozen.
Plants:
• For plants that aren't winter hardy, bring
them indoors.
• Cover outdoor plants with frost cloth (floating row
cover) and secure the cloth with bricks, rocks or
other heavy objects. Old sheets, blankets or
burlap also work.
Pipes:
• Slowly drip water from indoor faucets to prevent
pipes from freezing, especially if the faucets are on
an outside wall.
• Open cabinets under these faucets to allow heat
to come in.
• Disconnect garden hoses from outdoor faucets.
• Cover outdoor pipes and faucets with Styrofoam
covers, or towels if you don't have covers.
• Turn off automatic sprinkler systems.
• If your pipes freeze or burst, quickly turn off the
water to your house to avoid a major issue when the
pipes thaw.
Helpful Numbers:
• Report power outages to Oncor at 1-888-313-4747
or stormcenter.oncor.com
• Report gas issues to Atmos at 1-866-322-8667
• For assistance turning off your water, contact Euless
Public Works at 817-685-1580
