HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-10-03Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board October 03, 2022 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. On Monday, October, 03, 2022, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Steve Doty, Kay Seger, John Raab, Roger Sickler and Jason Reyes. Members absent: Isha Sharma and Magen Brown. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Ryan Turner, Recreation Manager Elizabeth Johnson and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: None INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the September 12, 2022 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous. 1. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown Reflection & Villages of Bear Creek: Not present. b. Steve Doty — Heritage & S. Euless: No items to report. c. John Raab — Preserve & McCormick: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler —J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. f. Kay Seger — Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. g. Isha Sharma — West Park & Wilshire: Not present. h. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for September 15t — 30th 2022: a. Total man hours for September 1st— 30th = 395 • 192 Horticulture • 173 Forestry • 20 Greenhouse • 0 Special Projects • 10 Training ➢ Trimmed trees at Fire Admin. and City Hall ➢ Stump grinded Bob Eden trees ➢ Stepped up trees at greenhouse ➢ Sprayed pre -emergent ➢ Fixed road to nowhere parking lot ➢ Removed downed tree at Kiddie Carr ➢ Potted plugs in the greenhouse ➢ Removed dead tree at Midway Park ➢ Power washed Bear's Den Pavilion and tables, picnic pad and tables at J.A. Carr ➢ Put out trail product at The Preserve ➢ Trimmed trees at Police and Courts ➢ Tree work at PATSN Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report— Elizabeth Johnson • Elizabeth presented pictures to the Park Board of a few activities being held at the Senior Center. The pictures included the members painting positive messages on rocks to be distributed throughout Euless Parks when they take their monthly walks through the parks. The rocks are painted on the first Friday of the month and the walks take place on the 3rd Monday of the month. • Elizabeth reported on the light replacement that took place at the Euless Family Life Center. Elizabeth let the Park Board know that she has received praise from the citizens who partake in racquetball and pickleball as the new lights help them with their sport. • Elizabeth gave an overview of the programs that Alex Harvey is scheduling at the Simmons Center. The line dance program has really taken off as well as the tumbling program. • Elizabeth let the board know of the Special Events coming up, including, Trunk or Treat on October 22, 2022 from 4pm-6pm and Float N' Flicks + Pumpkin Splash that will take place on October 14, 2022 at 5:30pm. Hotel Transylvania will be the movie played at this event. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 b. Parks Report — Ryan Turner • Ryan presented a picture to the Park Board of the plugs that come from seeds that have been planted. The employees work tirelessly one seed at a time putting them in planters. There are about 3,000-4,000 planters some including cabbage and pansies in different colors. • Ryan gave an overview of the turf on the athletic fields. The turf is old and is falling apart but has now been replaced. This work is complex and takes several employees, several days working in the heat to complete. • The Parks department took down 6 trees at PATSN new office site. All of the Park crews came together on this project. c. Director Report — Ray McDonald • Ray McDonald gave the Park Board and update on the FY'23 Projects. o Wilshire Park — Construction meeting scheduled for 10/17/2022. o PATS — North Entrance — Purchase Order has been turned in. o Pickleball Courts — Project has been approved by Council and the purchase order has been turned in. The pickleball courts are looking to be completed in 5 to 7 weeks. o Senior Center —The sound center replacement is on the City Council Agenda for 10/13/2022. The kitchen equipment purchase order has been placed. o McCormick Playground —Should be installed in December. o PATS South Scoreboards — Scoreboards have been ordered. o Weight Equipment — Project has been approved and product is in order. o Senior Center Patio Fencing — Project started today and furniture will be ordered. o Marquee Signs at VOBC and Midway — The Purchase order has been turned in and the product will be shipped to the Parks department. The signs will be installed by the Parks department. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. 1111. Other New Business • No new items to report. V.
