HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-11-14Historical Preservation Committee Minutes November 14, 2022 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Suzy McCormick called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. She extended a welcome to the attendees. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Joe Cannon, Patsy Hoover, Mary Hunt, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Faye Stinneford, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald and Parks and Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT Special Event/Program Coordinator Chance Boyd advised the Committee of the upcoming Heritage Park Christmas scheduled for December 10 from 11-3. He mentioned there will be plenty of activities for families to enjoy. He and Mr. McDonald also mentioned the Christmas Parade of Lights will be held at 6:30pm on December 3 and will run from Trinity High School to the Aquatic Center. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gary Parker made a motion to accept the October 10, 2022 minutes as written. Faye Stinneford seconded the motion. With unanimous approval, Ms. McCormick stated the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer Mavy Wright advised that the balance as of October 10 was $8,236.52. A deposit of $36 was made from the money jar and $125 was collected for the David Massey and O.D. Lively memorial plaque. The ending balance is $8,397.52. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—Linda Pool indicated there were five visitors to the museum on Saturday, November 12. She expressed appreciation to those who volunteered. Docent sheets were circulated for the December 10 Heritage Park HPC MTG 11142022 Page 1 of 3 Christmas Open House and noted the change of hours to 11am until 3pm. She and Suzy advised that there were only a few Trinity High School graduates who attended the two special tours during the two high school reunions. 2. Acquisition —Gary Parker advised that he and Keith Jernigan were going to place the ax on display. Gary also mentioned a lady had donated an old small fan to the museum. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool indicated the Facebook page is still not accessible for posting updates. Since she is still unable to access the FB page, she plans to contact the City of Euless website administrator for any assistance. 4. Plaque —Faye Stinneford and Mavy Wright stated they would be finalizing the collection of funds for the plaque for O.D. Lively and David Massey. S. Display Signs—Mavy Wright stated this is a work in progress. 6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright mentioned she had a visit with a representative of the FW Tarrant County Historical Society who plans to visit the Euless museum in December. She was curious about the land next the museum prior to the building of the Greek Orthodox Church. 7. Heritage Park —Mr. Parker reported the heaters in the Museum and Fuller House were not functioning on Saturday and that a work order had been placed for service. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - Suzy McCormick mentioned that the AED in the foyer needed attention because of the beeping. Mr. McDonald stated the Fire Department is aware of the situation and will replace it as soon as possible. STAFF REPORT - Mr. McDonald advised the committee that Alex Harvey of his staff had completed the Past/Perfect inventory. Only the newest items need to be added and requested photos of the new items. COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT 1. Keith Jernigan brought many items belonging to the Massey's. Mrs. Massey wanted to donate several yearbooks, a spelling book from 1904, a 1944 photograph from the Euless school, and miscellaneous figurines and collectables from David's youth. There was also a wooden nickel from the 100th Birthday of the Old Main Bridge. A donation H PC MTG 11142022 Page 2 of 3 form will be completed and photos will be taken. Linda Pool indicated she was working on the Japanese letter that Keith Jernigan had donated and hopes to have it completed and ready to display soon. 2. Doris Brown mentioned she had spoken with Marilyn Long. Marilyn has sold her car and no longer has transportation to the meetings. I Helen Payton stated there will be a private graveside service for David Massey on December 26 at the Calloway Cemetery. 4. Gary Parker advised the committee of the passing of Leon Hogg, former member and Council person, and active community member. S. Anniece McKanna shared information about her recent Painted Churches tour. She highly recommended the trip. 6. Several members noted the Christmas tree needed to be decorated in the in the Fuller House before the next meeting in December. Several members will be meeting at 10am on November 28 with lunch following at Raven's Grille. 7. Joe Cannon updated the group on the health of Weldon Cannon. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business or discussion, Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn, Patsy Hoover seconded the motion.
