HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-05-04 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board May 4,2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:02 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes. Board Members absent:Tiffany Smith and Salman Bhojani. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Programmer Robbie Rodgers, and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Tim Taylor, Steve Cooper and Agustin Zamaniego of North Euless Dads Club, Laura Glading of APFA and Loretta Doty. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 4, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Jason Reyes—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden &Trailwood: Not present. c. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: Not present. d. Roger Sickler—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: Lock on gate at Kiddie Carr broke. e. John Raab-West Park&Wilshire: No items to report. f. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. g. Randy Jones — Preserve & McCormick Park: Railings on gazebo at McCormick need to be replaced. h. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&South Euless: No items to report. Volunteer of the Month Chairman Owens announced the May 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Tim Taylor, Steve Cooper, Paul Smith, and Agustin Zamaniego of the North Euless Dads Club. These men immediately seized the opportunity to help with the Euless Trash Off and Community Work Day. Not only did they help pick up trash in our parks, but they help fix and clean amenities offered in our parks. Mr. Taylor, Mr. Cooper, and Mr. Zamaniego were able to accept their award and thanked the board. III. Beautification Award Chairman Owens announced the May 2015 Residential Yard of the Month is Mr. Todd & Melinda Jach.The landscape displays shrubs such as Dwarf Yaupon Hollies,Abelia, and flowering Azaleas. It is also enhanced by Red Oak Tree, Mondo grass, Liriope grass, and an assortment of flowering plants. Mr. &Mrs.Jach were not present to accept their award, it will be delivered to their house. Chairman Owens announced the May 2015 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification award winner was the Association of Professional Flight Attendants. This property displays a showing of nicely trimmed shrubs such as Dwarf Yaupon Hollies, Dwarf Nandina, and Lingustrum shrubs. This business is also enhanced with colorful Pansies, Pine Trees, Crape Myrtle, and Asian Jasmine as ground cover.They were able to accept their award and thanked the board. IV. Business of the Tree Board Randy Jones reported the following for April: a. Total man hours for April 1-30=631 • 289.00 Horticulture • 25.00 Forestry • 89.00 Greenhouse • 213.00 Special Projects • 15.00 Training • Arbor Daze Free Tree Giveaway. • Removed Pine tree at City Hall. • Removed tree at Blessing Branch Park. • Removed tree limbs due to storm damage in parks. V. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Staff Report—Robbie Rodgers • Brief introduction of history as an employee with Euless. • Update on Recreation Center and Summer Camp. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 b. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Green Ribbon Project update. • Texas Star Sports Center update due to weather and games. • Updated board on mowing contract progress. Chairman Owens thanked the staff for their reports. V1. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input from City Council or visitors.
