Parks and Leisure Services Board
June 1,2015
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on
Monday, June 1, 2015, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones,Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty, Roger
Sickler and Jason Reyes. Members absent: Salman Bhojani.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks
Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Assistant Ofa
Faiva-Siale and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: Loretta Doty, Doris Brown, Carolyn Toler, and Council Member Linda Eilenfeldt.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 4,
2015 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and
was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&South Euless: No items to report.
b. Randy Jones—Preserve& McCormick: Branches blocking lights at McCormick.
c. John Raab—West Park&Wilshire Park: No items to report.
d. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: No items to report.
e. Roger Sickler-J.A. Carr Park& Kiddy Carr: No items to report.
f. Jason Reyes- Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report.
g. Salman Bhojani- Bob Eden Park&Trailwood: Not present.
h. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report.
i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events:
• May 9—Tree Giveaway—200 trees given away
• May 16—Movie in the Park—50 people attended
• May 29—Out of School Bash—300 people attended

• June 13—Movie in the Park, Lego Movie at VOBC at 9:00 p.m.
• June 27-Concert in the Park, Mike Brown &Verlon Thompson at VOBC at 6:00 p.m.
• July 18—Movie in the Park, Frozen at VOBC at 9:00 p.m.
• July 31—Concert in the Park, Havana NRG at VOBC at 7:00 p.m.
• August 21—Concert in the Park, Me& My Monkey at VOBC at 7:00 p.m.
11. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Owens announced the June 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to
Doris Brown. Ms. Brown volunteers her time with the Historical Preservation
Committee, not only serving on the committee, but acting as treasurer. She also
volunteers to work Saturdays when the museum is open to visitors and when we need
to schedule private tours. She acts as a docent, helping to inform the visitor's
information about the history of Euless. Ms. Brown accepted her award and thanked
the board.
III. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Owens announced the June 2015 Residential Beautification Award of the
Month goes to Carolyn Toler at 403 Limestone Drive. Ms. Toler's landscape is well
manicured and has a wide variety of plant specimens on display. This landscape has
Annual Begonia, Knockout Roses, Rosemary, and an array of hanging baskets. She
accepted the award and thanked the board.
b. Chairman Owens announced the June 2015 Business/Civic/Governmental
Beautification Award of the Month goes to AADFW at 1350 Westpark Way. This
landscape displays a well-manicured lawn, and is complimented with an assortment of
plants. It offers a showing of Roses, Yaupon Hollies, Crape Myrtle, and large Cedar Elm
trees.They accepted the award and thanked the board.

IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for May 1-31:
a. Total man hours for May 1-31 = 618
• 315.00 Horticulture
• 137.00 Forestry
• 119.00 Greenhouse
• 7.00 Special Projects
• 39.00 Training
• Trimmed limbs at Sulfur Branch.
• Trimmed Red Tips at Westpark driveway.
• Trimmed Live Oaks at Main St. and Midway Dr. corner.
• Removed tree limbs due to storm damage several times this month.
• Trimmed trees on Harwood and Fair Oaks medians.
• Removed down trees at Kiddie Carr Park.
V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Staff Report—Ofa Faiva-Siale
• Discussed career history with city/rental program.
b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Summer camp &swim lessons have begun and are going well.
• Senior Center had over 3,000 visits last month, and 5,000 participants in classes.
• Recreation is already preparing for fall—special events, classes, etc...
c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
• Bids opened for Green Ribbon Project.
• Update on Dr Pepper Star Center.
• Parks at Texas Star and Softball World have lost 70 days total due to rain.
• Review of Summer Track Program—over 100 kids attending this year.
Chairman Owens thanked the staff for their reports.

Reminder of no July meeting.
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
Council Member Eilenfeldt thanked the staff for all the hard work starting off the summer.

Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
