A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS RECOGNIZING
FORMER COUNCIL MEMBER GLENN PORTERFIELD AND
DEDICATING THE PRACTICE AREA AT THE TEXAS STAR GOLF
COURSE IN HIS MEMORY AND HONOR.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas desires to recognize
Glenn Porterfield for 15 years of public service while serving as a member of the Euless
City Council from 1999 through 2014, including as Mayor Pro Tern for two years; and
WHEREAS, born in Nashville, Arkansas in 1939, his family relocated to
Weatherford, Texas where he graduated from Weatherford High School; and
WHEREAS, He served in the US Army Infantry in 1957 and continued in the
Reserves through December 1960 and went on to earn a degree from the University of
North Texas and the University of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, following graduation from college, he enjoyed a 35-year career in
the banking industry and retired in 2001; and
WHEREAS, before his election to the City Council in May 1999, he served on the
Euless Development Corporation; and
WHEREAS, while serving on the City Council, he served as the City
representative to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board, as well as a member
of the Euless Development Corporation, the Crime Control and Prevention District, and
the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #3; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure as a public official, Council Member Porterfield
maintained an exceptional record of service; motivated by his strong sense of loyalty,
his personal obligation to his fellow citizens, and a sincere desire to continually improve
his community. This remarkable gentleman has left an indelible mark on the community
he has so faithfully served; and
WHEREAS, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed many rounds of golf at the Texas
Star Golf Course and therefore this recognition is a meaningful tribute in his honor and
in his memory.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EULESS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1.
The City Council of the City of Euless wish to recognize and honor Glenn
Porterfield for his many years of service in and to the City by dedication of the practice
area at the Texas Star Golf Course.
SECTION 2.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately from and after its passage,
as the law and charter in such cases provide.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on
the 11th day of August 2015, by a vote of 7 ayes, o nays, and 0 abstention.
