EULESS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
September 7, 2022
ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by
Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor at 11:31 A.M. at the City of Euless
Public Works Building, 1513 Westpark Way, Euless, Texas 76040
The following members were in attendance:

Dr. Susan Read
Hurst Animal Services Supervisor Chris Chenevert

Animal Control Supervisor Larry Atkinson
Assistant Director Public Works Major Jones

Patty — Shelter Cats

ITEM 2 — REVIEW & APPROVE MEETING MINUTES FROM JUNE 15, 2022
Director Cranor asked if there were any comments or questions regarding the minutes of
June 15, 2022. With no questions or comments, the minutes were accepted as written.
ITEM 3 — UPDATE ON GAP
ACO Supervisor Atkinson reported that GAP held a couple of adoption events at Petco
and PetSmart with no adoptions reported.
ITEM 4 — QUARTERLY REPORT
ACO Supervisor Atkinson asked if there were any questions pertaining to the quarterly
report. Patty with Shelter Cats reported that her organization does well with the cats at
the shelter with fewer fosters than others. She asked how many cats are currently at the
shelter and ACO Atkinson reported that they currently have 4 to 5 cats. ACO Atkinson
gave a report regarding what Shelter Cats does for the community and the shelter. Dr.
Read mentioned the increase in animal bites. Supervisor Atkinson indicated that it may
be due to the warmer weather and the number of people and animals being outside.

ITEM 5 — SHELTER / FACILITY UPDATE
ACO Supervisor Atkinson reported that ACO Shelton has completed his last class to
become a Certified Animal Cruelty Investigator and that PW crew member, Carson
Merchant, has completed his ACO certification and will attend euthanasia training. He
also reported that the part-time position had been approved by City Council to become a
full-time position and that there are plans to put laptops in the ACO trucks effective in the
next fiscal year. Deputy City Manager Barker asked if the new shelter hours were working
well for the shelter and ACO Supervisor Atkinson indicated that he had not heard any
complaints. Patty with Shelter Cats stated that some of their fosters were not initially
happy with the change in hours but that shelter staff has been diligent in working with
them. Barbara Brown with MCCC stated that they have been able to maintain a good
relationship with the shelter.
ITEM 6 — QUESTIONS / COMMENTS
Director Cranor asked if there were any further questions or comments. Deputy City
Manager Barker reported that there are plans to expand the animal shelter once
construction is complete for a new Fire Station 2 facility. Architectural plans are expected
in the next 18-24 month.

The meeting was adjourned at 11.50 A.M.
