EULESS — Darkness, clutter and
rows of metal shelves decorate the
city's old library building, a reminder
that changes are happening a few hun-
dred yards to the west.
There, the city's new $4 million li-
brary is a bustle of activity in prepara-
tion for Monday's opening.
As volunteers placed bar codes on
books yesterday, city officials gave
tours of the 40,000-square-foot facility
to let the public see what their half -cent
sales tax rate increase is buying.
The building, four times as large as
the old one, should serve residents well
into the 21st century, said Betty
Yarbrough, library director.
"The thing it obviously has is a lot of
space, but there also is a lot of room for
growth," Yarbrough said. "I think
that's the one thing that is most impor-
tant. That way, you can plan your ex-
pansion as it happens."
The new facility on North Ector
Drive is the fourth library in the city's
history, and Euless has come a long way
since its first one.
