HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-02-06Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board February, 06, 2023 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 PM. On Monday, February, 06, 2023, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes and Isha Sharma. Members absent: John Raab, Kay Seger and Magen Brown. Staff members present: Assistant City Manager Wes Rhodes, Recreation Manager Elizabeth Johnson, Parks Manager Daniel Dearborn, Parks Superintendent Ryan Turner and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: Dee Leary, Joe Robinson and David McCann. INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the January 09, 2023 regular meeting. Steve Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Roger Sickler. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown — Preserve & McCormick: Not present. b. Steve Doty — West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. c. John Raab — VOBC & Reflection: Not present. d. Roger Sickler — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes — Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. f. Kay Seger —J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: Not present. g. Isha Sharma — Heritage & S. Euless: No items to report. h. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for January 1st — 311t, 2023: a. Total man hours for January 1st — 311t = 471 • 203 Horticulture • 39 Forestry • 119 Greenhouse • 78 Special Projects • 32 Training ➢ Christmas Tree Recycling Event ➢ Removed dead tree from J.A. Carr Park Entrance ➢ Sprayed Pre -Emergent at City Facilities, Parks, ROWs and Medians ➢ Trimmed Live Oak at City Hall ➢ Removed Hackberry Tree at the Myers Lot ➢ Worked on Acorns at the greenhouse ➢ Trimmed back plants at Senior Center, Aquatic Park, Main St. and Green Belt ➢ Replaced flowers at City Hall ➢ Removed dead pecan tree at The Preserve III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report —Alex Harvey • Daddy Daughter Dinner was held on February 03, 2023 at the Texas Star Conference Centre. There were 120 people in attendance who let loose on the dance floor. Everyone loved the DJ and thought the DJ was very interactive. • The Euless Family Life Center held a Zumba-thon on January 14, 2023 where 75 people attended. Two of our very own Zumba instructors helped out with the event. • The Spring Scavenger Hunt will take place on March 18, 2023 at 8:00 am. And will take place throughout the Parks/Facilities trails. • Kites over Euless will take place on April 15, 2023 at Villages of Bear Creek. The city will provide trash bags and there will also be free kites while supplies last. b. Parks Report — Daniel Dearborn • McCormick Park playground install is now complete. • The concrete pour at Blessing Branch is complete. Trash cans, picnic tables, grills and a bike repair station are all coming soon. • Wilshire Park is currently under renovation. The park is in the process of demolition and prepping for dirt work. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 • The new marquis signs have been received and will be installed once the electrical issues have been addressed. • A handicap ramp will be added at the new Pickleball Courts and lighting will be added soon. c. Community Services Report —Wes Rhodes • Wes Rhodes will be the point of contact until the Parks & Community Service director has been hired. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IIII. Other New Business No new items to report. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors David McCann requested new tennis courts or a new tennis facility be discussed for the City of Euless. David let the board know there are a lack of tennis courts in the Euless area and that citizens have to visit a neighboring city to attend a tennis facility. Joe Robinson gave his thanks to the city for the Parks and trail system. Mr. Robinson would love to see more basketball hoops throughout the city as well as more soccer fields. Dee Leary addressed the Park Board and stated that she will be getting ready to retire and wants to donate her services to departments in the city.
