HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-05 Euless Today2023*May As you go about your day, please remember on May 29 the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day is a time to remember them and thank them for allowing us to have the freedoms we enjoy today. Memorial Day is also the unofficial start of summer. With the summer months comes swimming. If you or a family member can't swim, please visit the Euless Family Life Center and sign up for lessons. They are offered to individuals of all ages. For more information, visit The Playbook, which is available on the City's website, www.eutesstx.gov. I hope you enjoy your summer, but most importantly, I hope you have a safe summer. Did you know that children drown silently and that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children ages one to four? Nearly 70 percent of children drown during non - swim time, when everyone's out of the water and doing other activities. Toddlers have no fear of water and they like to explore, so they can easily fall into a swimming pool, hot tub or even bathtub and drown in as little as 20 seconds. That is why it's so important to carefully monitor and "lifeguard your child," in and out of the water. It's also important to teach children about water safety. There are excellent water and pool safety tips on Cook Children's website: LifeGuardYourChild.org. Volunteers T H E C I T Y O F EULESS Awarded The City of Euless is so fortunate to have such a strong, loyal group of volunteers that help us with everything from the Animal Shelter to the Zoning Board of Adjustments. We would not be able to host our great events, run meetings or even bring smiles to as many faces without them. They volunteer their time without asking for anything in return. The City of Euless honors volunteers each year to celebrate the dedication and service of these outstanding people. Volunteer Eric Owens is this year's recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. Eric comes from a long line of servant leaders. His father served Euless in a number of volunteer positions, including a term on the Euless City Council. He has served as a Parks and Leisure Services Board member, and currently serves on the Planning and Zoning Board. He has over 30 years of serving this City. While on the Parks Board, Eric helped plan several major projects including the Parks at Texas Star, Villages of Bear Creek, Preserve at McCormick Park, and all of the current facilities at Midway Park such as the Euless Family Life Center and the Aquatic Park. The City of Euless is grateful for Eric's services, and congratulate him on this achievement. Euless Today is published by the City of Euless. 201 N.
