HomeMy WebLinkAbout74-343 09-10-1974RESOLUTION NO. 343 WHEREAS, the Euless City Council on July 20, 1974, appointed a group of citizens to serve on the Bi- Centennial Committee, and WHEREAS, this Committee has proceeded to evaluate projects for the Bi- Centennial celebration in the City of Euless. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, that the goals and projects of the City of Euless Bi- Centennial Committee are adopted on this the 10th day of September, 1974, at a regyliir meeting of the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas. Krause Mayor of Euless, Texas 201 Bctor Dr, Buless, Texas 76039 Sub): Bicentennial Committee Dear Sir: The Euless Bicentennial Steering Committee submits for your approval the following persons & their titles to serve on the Bicentennial Committees Chairman - Mrs. George Bberhart Co.Chairman - Mr, M%ia Puller Heritage: Co- Chairmen - Mrs. D, Huetter Campbell Mr, Carl Hankins Pestival: Co- Chairmen - Mrs. William Welton Mrs, Bill McCray Horizon's: Co- Chairmen - Mt. Dwayne Wilcox Mr, Prank Lindsey Secretary: Mrs. Jarrell Bolton We also would like to ask that Councilwoman Mrs. W. 14 McCormick & Councilman Mr. Harold Samuels serve as ex officio members of the Bicentennial Committee. We further request that the Council pass a resolution of adoption on the goals & projjects we are submitting to the American *evolution Bicentennial mission of Texas for official endorsement. They are as follows: Heritage: Goals - to research & preserve the heritage of the city of Euless through the pas. ticipation of historic & patriotic organizations, elementary through college students, & all other segments of our community. Projects - 1. to erect a sun dial in the Buless Civic Center complex dedicated to the city's founders. 2, to compile an oral history of the city of Buless to be used by students, civic groups & other organizations. 3. to reconstruct & preserve the Little Brear Creek bridge because of it's historic value, 4, to initiate & oversee essay contests among students in local schools, on the subject of patriotism, .4 j°R S. to place historical markers on buildings & landmarks theoughout the city. Festival: Goals - to promote & develope activities & events which encourage interest in our city, our state & our nation. Projects - 1, to encourage local families to decorate their homes with a replica of the American eagle in keeping with the Bicentennial theme. 2, to institute a homecoming parade for Trinity High School of Buless, with a patriotic these. 3, to produce an historical pageant in cooperation with neighboring cities depicting the growth of the mid- cities area. 4. a 1976 Bicentennial kick -off celebration to be held on December 31, 1973. S. to form a city band to perform on a regular basis. 6, to hold an annual sidewalk Arts & Crafts fair in the municipal complex. 7. to coordinate all Summer recreation activities among various groups & organisations. Horizon's: Goals - challenge all Buless residents to combine their talents & resources in a rededication to the American ideals of liberty & justice for all. Projects - 1, to construct a reproduction of a typical 1776 f ronteer home in authentic detail. This home would be open on a regular scheduled basis for school groups, tourists & other interested persons. It would serve as a lasting memorial to commemorate the 200th birthday o6f our country.
