HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-09-14 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board September 14, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other board members present: Randy Jones, John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Salman Bhojani. Members absent:Tiffany Smith and Jason Reyes. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Aquatics Coordinator Kali Goodfellow and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty and Farzana Ali and family. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August 3, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr.Jones. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&S. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection—Not present. e. Roger Sickler- Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr—No items to report. f. Jason Reyes—Midway Park& Blessing Branch - Not Present. g. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden Park&Trailwood—No items to report. h. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star—No items to report. i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • August 21—Me & My Monkey at Leon Hogg Amphitheater—300 people Upcoming Events • September 19—Stars Over Euless 8:30 PM at Bob Eden Park • September 25—Concert in the Park—Les Elgart Orchestra 7 PM @ Leon Hogg Amphitheatre • October 3—Tx Junior Anglers at Wilshire Pond 9 am—12 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced the October 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Farzana Ali and family.They are always the first to ask Jerry which events they can help with, which has resulted in many hours of volunteering with the City. They have been involved with over 13 events and logged as many as 98 hours volunteering at special events and helping out where ever they can. They are always dependable and Jerry is able to count on them whenever he needs a helping hand. Mrs. Ali and family were present to accept the award, and thanked the board. Ill. Beautification Award of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced that the October 2015 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Kim Ross at 2410 Nettle. This landscape has many flower beds including plants such as, Indian Hawthorne, Dwarf Youpon Holly, Purple Jew, Asian Jasmine, and Soft Leaf Yucca. It is always well kept, and beautifully organized. Ms. Ross was not present to accept her award, it will be delivered to her. b. Chairman Owens announced the July 2015 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes to QuikTrip at 700 S. Industrial Blvd. The plants, trees, and grass are regularly trimmed. They have many Crepe Myrtles, Juniper plants and Fringe flowers to accent the property. Their Bermuda grass is watered regularly and kept looking its best. QuikTrip was not present to accept their award, it will be delivered to them. IV. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Vice Chairman Randy Jones reported the following for August: a. Total man hours for August 1-31 =555 hours • 229.00 Horticulture • 142.00 Forestry • 176.00 Greenhouse • 00.00 Special Projects • 8.00 Training ➢ Trimmed trees on Cullum Dr. > Trimmed trees in School Zones for beginning of school. > Trimmed trees on Harwood Drive. ➢ Removed tree limbs at Trailwood and Villages of Bear Creek Park. ➢ Trimmed tree branches on Mid-Cities Blvd. medians. Staff Report—Kali Goodfellow: Aquatics Coordinator • Overview of certifications, staff, procedures, and summer 2015 season. b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • Discussed music survey results. • Trunk or Treat vendor space is completely full. c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Overview of budgetary items that were approved for FY16. • Fall registration for Parks at Texas Star has increased to 55 teams. • New vendor has leased the concession space in the Dr Pepper Star Center. Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports. VI. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input from City Council or visitors.
