Minutes
October 12, 2015
CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman, Barbara Collier, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was
held at Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Drive, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Bill Byers, Don Martin, Iris Elliott, Doris Brown, Barbara Collier, Leon Hogg, Norma Lively,
David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, Weldon Cannon, Mary Lib Saleh, Gary Parker, Marilyn

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Leon Hogg made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Mary Lib Saleh seconded
the motion. Motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $12,091.21. There was a deposit of$34 from the donation box
and jar, $50 was spent to purchase the book/s in memorial of Perry Brookmeyer. The
current balance is $12,075.21.
PRESENTATION
Joe Schaefer has done several bronze statues for the City of Euless. In between October
1963 and 1975, they leased the properties located where the old Bird's Fort was located.
A gentleman named J.L. Paddock completed a history research of Bird's Fort from its
completion in 1841 until its later abandonment. Mr. Schaefer discussed many interesting
stories that had to do with the Fort including treaty negotiations and several stories that
had to do with fatalities and conflicts between the local Indian tribes and early whites who
were trying to settle the area.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/ Recruitment—Barbara Collier
a. Staff reported that 16 visitors signed in at open house on Saturday, October 10 and
there were 11 docents.
b. Midway Elementary School is touring Heritage Park this Thursday, October 15
between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

c. Heritage Park will be open on Saturday, October 17 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
during the Greek Festival event. Mary Lib Saleh asked for sandwich boards saying
"Open Today"to be posted near the parking lot.
d. A signup sheet was handed out to the members to sign up to work these two dates.
2. Acquisitions—Bill Byers
a. A tractor toy with a trailer is being acquired for display.
b. Leon Hogg would like to donate two baseball bats from the ground breaking and
grand-opening of the Parks at Texas Star.
3. Library Display—Marilyn Long
a. Half of the previous display has been replaced.
b. The Committee will work closely with the City to keep track of all the artifacts as
they are being moved from one location to another. It's very important to know
where all items are located at all times.

5. Heritage Park—No Report
6. Local Historical Marker—No Report
7. Publicity—Barbara Collier appointed herself, Andy Weinzapfel, Faye Stinneford and Bill
Golden to work on projects promoting and publicizing Heritage Park. Anyone else
interested in working with the group can volunteer.

9. Display Signs—No Report
10.Oral History 1 Photography—Gary Fieldsend
a. Staff is in the process of transcribing Weldon Cannon's first interview. A second
recording of Mr. Cannon will be scheduled in the future. Mr. Cannon will proof his
interviews before they are released to the public.
b. Gary Fieldsend will record Weldon Cannon's presentation at the next meeting.
11.Artifact Recovery—Andy Weinzapfel will contact the Sikh leaders again for permission
to metal detect on the church property.
12.Historical Albums—Marilyn Long
a. Received an album from staff with photos of all the plaques and markers located at
various buildings and locations in the City.
b. Bill Golden is working to acquire year books from the local schools.

13.Texas State Historical Marker Application—Andy Weinzapfel submitted the application
for"Early Schools"to the Tarrant County Historical Commission and they in turn
submitted it to the Texas Historical Commission.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
a. The Historical banner will be used and brochures to be handed out at the event.
b. The Committee will buy candy for the event.
c. Bill Byers' truck will be used. Gary Fieldsend will help with decorations.
d. Staff will email instructions to Mrs. Collier regarding the event.
2. An updated Sub-committee list has been emailed to those with emails. Those without
emails may have hard copies provided for them.
3. Reported the following as projects that have been accomplished so far:
a. Gary Parker completed the storage room and the Album storage closet.
b. Any Weinzapfel submitted the Texas Historical Marker application.
c. The Library Display Committee updated the display at the Library.
d. Gary Fieldsend completed Weldon Cannon's first oral history recording.
e. Elementary Schools are starting to call in to schedule more tours of Heritage Park.
STAFF REPORT
1. Suzanne Hendrickson is out for a week due to medical reasons.
COMMITTEE/ OTHER REPORTS
1. Andy Weinzapfel indicated an interest in possibly getting in contact with the owners of
the Bird's Fort property for permission to metal detect on the property,
2. Staff acquired Mr. Brockmeyer's daughter's address. Doris Brown sent an FYI
regarding the books and memorials received on her father's behalf to the family.
3. Andy Weinzapfel attended the annual Tarrant County Historical Commission's Annual
Summit. He spoke with Wes Culwell who is considered a Master Arborist from Fort
Worth. Mr. Weinzapfel wondered about implementing a program to document trees of
historical significance to Euless. Gary Fieldsend suggested a visit to the Preserve at
McCormick Park Historic Tree Farm, The Parks Department maintains the tree farm.
4. Don Martin had tickets for the Fire Fighters fundraising on October 21, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Andy Weinzapfel seconded the
motion. Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
