City of Euless Pavement
Management
The City of Euless oversees and maintains
approximately 140 centerline miles of paved public
roadways. The condition and reliability of these
public roadways are the responsibility of the Ci%'s
Public Works Department. To help accomplish this
task, Public Works utilizes an independent third -
party Pavement Condition Index (PCI) program.
Originally developed by the United States Army
Corps of Engineers, PCI is a numerical index between
0 (worst) and 100 (best), which is used to indicate
the general condition of a pavement section and the
performance of our road infrastructure. Multiple
factors affect the City's PCI score. These include
pavement age, climate and precipitation, traffic loads
and available maintenance funding.
The PCI helps City staff track the service life of our
public road network, and in turn, prioritize roads that
need to be re -paved. This grading system helps staff
identify roads which could benefit from pavement
maintenance treatments, like surface sealants, which
help extend service life of a road and avoid the need
for more extensive rehabilitation projects. It helps
City staff determine which streets to include in the
upcoming year's plan and what type of treatment to
utilize to gain the most cost-effective benefit. The
recommended treatment based on the PCI score could
range from applying slurry seal to extend the life up to
complete reconstruction in cases where the subgrade
is no longer suitable for other maintenance options.
This information is presented to the City Council as
part of the annual budget process.
The most recent PCI assessment was completed in
2022. The overall results of the assessment found the
City's public roadways are in very good condition,
with an above industry average PCI. While this is good
news, due to inflationary pressures, the City Council
has worked to annually increase the funding for
street maintenance in order to ensure that the current
condition is maintained with a goal of achieving an
overall improvement with each new assessment,
which is completed at least every five years. The
Pavement Condition Index is a simple, convenient
and inexpensive way to monitor the condition of
the surface of roads, identify maintenance and
rehabilitation needs, and ensure that road maintenance
budgets are spent wisely.

Beat the Heat
Summer is here and the temperature is rising. As
you plan your outdoor activities, remember that
too much fun in the sun can lead to heat stroke or
other heat -related health issues. Besides visiting the
Euless Family Life Aquatic Park or the South Euless
Park Splash Pad, there are ways you can enjoy being
outdoors without endangering your health.
Tips from the National Institutes of Health to protect
yourself from the sun:
• Do outdoor activities during the coolest part of
the day, in the early morning or evening.
• Exercise in an air-conditioned space if possible,
or do water workouts.
• Try to stay in the shade when outdoors during
peak sunlight.
• Drink plenty of liquids, especially water.
• Avoid drinks that contain alcohol or caffeine.
• Wear protective clothing, such as hats,
long -sleeve shirts and long pants to block out
the sun's harmful rays. Choose light-colored,
loose -fitting clothing.
• Use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and
UVB radiation. Choose a sun protection factor (SPF)
of at least 15, preferably 30. Reapply frequently.
• Use sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB.
Like people, too much time in extreme heat can be
dangerous for pets. Pets with flat faces like Pugs and
Persian cats, elderly animals and overweight pets are
more susceptible to heat stroke.
Heat safety tips for pets:
• Don't leave pets in vehicles.
• Keep water bowls filled with fresh water.
• Limit outdoor activities.
• Keep paws off hot surfaces.
• Provide shade for outdoor pets, or better yet,
bring them inside an air-conditioned building.
Get Advance Notice of
Mosquito Treatments
It's summer and mosquitos thrive in hot weather.
Besides being irritating, they can also spread disease,
such as West Nile virus, Zika virus and the St. Louis
encephalitis virus.
The City of Euless traps mosquitoes weekly in
different areas of the City. Tarrant County then tests
those mosquitos for diseases. If a mosquito is positive
for mosquito -borne illnesses, the City of Euless will
then spray that area for mosquitos. Mosquito spraying
is typically done after 10 p.m. when most people are
indoors. Spraying will not take place when it's raining
or when wind speeds are 10 mph or greater. During
the spraying, you do not need to do anything special,
since the spray droplets falling on the ground become
inactive in just a few hours or with sunshine (UV
light).
You can get advance, email notice ofmosquito spraying
in your neighborhood by signing up for "Community
Alerts" at www.eulesstx.gov/enotification. For
questions or concerns regarding mosquitos, please
call Public Works at 817-685-1580.

The Euless park system contains over 7 miles of trails across 10-plus parks. These trails vary in width, even
up to 8 feet across, using different materials from concrete to crushed limestone depending on the location and
topography. Many of these trails connect with the system of sidewalks that crisscross the city. These mixed -use
trails can be used for biking, walking, jogging and similar activities.
Euless trail users can make bicycle repairs right on the trail. The bike repair station is located along the Glade
Parks trail near Rio Grande Boulevard. The fully -equipped, bicycle repair station includes all the tools necessary
to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs.
Here are some tips to stay safe while using our multi -use trails:
1. Bicyclists and runners must yield to walkers.
2. When passing another trail user, speak in a normal voice and announce your presence.
3. Bicyclists must be in control at all times.
4. All trail users must yield before crossing a trail.
5. Leashed pets should be kept to no more than 6 feet in length and you must clean up after your pets.
6. Stay on ojpen trails and respect private property. Leave no trace and never scare animals.
7. Stick to lighted paths after dark.
8. Trail use is for everyone. Please do your part and always be alert, responsible and courteous.
