HomeMy WebLinkAbout76-392 07-27-1976RESOLUTION NO. 392 WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas did create the Texas Turnpike Authority and authorize the construction of a toll - way connecting the Cities of Fort Worth and Dallas, now known as "The Fort Worth - Dallas Turnpike," and WHEREAS, the citizens of Tarrant and Dallas Counties were told and assured that the turnpike tolls would be discontinued when the revenue received was sufficient to pay all revenue bonds issued for the construction of the tollroad, and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Euless by the payment of tolls have contributed measurably to the payment of such revenue obligations, and WHEREAS, the revenue derived from turnpike tolls has been sufficient to make early retirement of the revenue bonds, thereby permitting the turnpike to become a freeway, but the Texas Turn- pike Authority has resisted final payment of the revenue bonds and has continued to devise plans resulting in the expenditure of funds for additional improvements with the result that the tolls will continue indefinitely, and WHEREAS, the Euless City Council, speaking for and on behalf of its citizens, has resolved to inform the Texas Turnpike Authority of its total and absolute opposition to the continuance of turnpike tolls. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, in its regular meeting duly assembled this 27th day of July, 1976, that the Texas Turnpike Authority be advised and informed of its absolute and firm opposition to the expenditure of funds for additional improvements and the conduct of "so- called" feasibility studies which are obviously designed to perpetuate the Texas Turnpike Authority in violation of its initial commitment to remove the tolls and make the turnpike a freeway when the revenue was sufficient to pay the revenue bonds. ADOPTED, this 27th day of July, 1976. APPROVED: Mayor A' TEST: City Secretary ITEM I Council Minutes July 27, 1976
