HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-04-03Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April, 03, 2023 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 PM. On Monday, April, 03, 2023, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Magen Brown, Steve Doty, Kay Seger, John Raab, Roger Sickler and Jason Reyes. Members absent: Isha Sharma. Staff members present: Assistant City Manager Wes Rhodes, Recreation Manager Elizabeth Johnson, Recreation Supervisor Alex Harvey, Recreation Assistant Shelli Walsh, Parks Manager Daniel Dearborn, Parks Superintendent Ryan Turner and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: None present. INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 06, 2023 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Jason Reyes. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown — Preserve & McCormick: No items to report. b. Steve Doty — West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. c. John Raab — VOBC & Reflection: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes — Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. f. Kay Seger — J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report. g. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for March 15t — 311t, 2023: a. Total man hours for March 1st — 31St = 615 • 217 Horticulture • 180 Forestry • 173 Greenhouse • 37 Special Projects • 8 Training ➢ Installed new marquee signs at J.A. Carr Park and VOBC ➢ Installed playground ramp and bike repair station pad at Blessing Branch ➢ Installed Glade Parks Trail lighting ➢ Installed artificial turf at Fire Station 1 ➢ Continued to spray pre -emergent ➢ Storm damage tree clean up ➢ Cut back rose and shrubs throughout the city III. Parks and Communitv Services Reports a. Recreation Report — Elizabeth Johnson • Kites over Euless is scheduled to be held at the Villages of Bear Creek on April 15, 2023. • Arbor Daze is scheduled to take place on April 29, 2023 at the Euless Family Life Center. Many different events will be taking place including a Magic show, a Critter Show, a food eating contest, Glad Park Farmer's Market and a concert starting at 5pm with Tennessee Whiskey taking the stage. • The Euless Family Life Center partnered with the Aquatic Staff and held the 1st Egg Splash on April 01, 2023. There were 60 kids that participated in this event. The event was held in different stages based on age, 3-6 age group and 7-12 age group. The event went so well that it is planned to bring back next year. • Spring Break camp was held on March 13-17th, 2023. 13 Kids were in attendance. • The Senior Center held a St. Paddy's day lunch and parade with 50 people in attendance. • The new guard breakroom is currently being constructed and are hoping for a mid- summer completion. • The kitchen equipment replacement is complete. All kitchen equipment has been replaced and old equipment will go to auction. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 b. Parks Report — Rvan Turner • Blessing Branch had a ramp poured at the play area. • A Bike repair station and swings will also be coming to Blessing Branch. • The Marquee sign was replaced at VOBC but has not been unveiled. There will be an unveiling ceremony at a later date. • Artificial Turf was installed at Fire Station #1. The Parks department partnered with another company and worked together to teach Park staff on how to install artificial turf on their own. • Glade Park lighting is complete. The lights have motion sensors and will turn on when approaching that area. c. Community Services Report —Wes Rhodes • A new Parks & Community Service director has been identified. Duane Strawn has been selected and will start with The City of Euless on May 01, 2023. Duane Strawn will be retiring from The City of Grand Prairie. Duane Strawn will bring with him a wealth of knowledge. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IV. Other New Business • No items to report. VI.
