HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-409 08-23-1977RESOLUTION NO, 409 WHEREAS, the people of the State of Texas, by amendments of the Constitution of the State of Texas, on November 6, 1973 did authorize political subdivisions to exempt from ad valorum taxes not less than $3,000.00 of the assessed value of residence home- steads of certain persons 65 years of age or older, and WHEREAS, pursuant to such authority the City of Euless, Texas, and other political subdivisions neighboring and /or encompassing the City of Euless, Texas, did subsequently grant such an exemp- tion of $3,000.00 to the persons over 65 years of age so entitled to same, and WHEREAS, request has been made to the City of Euless, neigh- boring municipalities and the Hurst - Euless- Bedford Independent School District to increase such exemption from $3,000.00 to $7,000.00, and WHEREAS, because of the use of a common appraisement and collection office with such neighboring municipalities and the H:iarst- Euless - Bedford Independent School District the need exists do act uniformly in such matter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, in regular meeting duly assembled this the 23rd day of August, 1977, that such Council does, by this resolution, acknowledge its desire and intention to increase the homestead exemption from ad valorum taxes for those persons entitled thereto pursuant to Section 1 -b of Article 8 of the Constitution of the State of Texas from an amount of $3,000.00 to an amount of $7,000.00 provided the governing bodies of the Cities of Hurst and Bedford, Texas, and the Hurst - Euless - Bedford Independent School District grant a like exemption, which exemption will be effective from and after January 1, 1978.
