Dear Citizens,
This is the
last month of
a summer — the
last hurrah for
hot weather and
r family -friendly
activities. This
was another
successful
summer at the Euless Family Life
Aquatic Park, and there's still time
to enjoy what the Aquatic Park has
to offer as it's open through Labor
Day weekend. This summer featured
the annual Summer Concert Series.
Families enjoyed free concerts,
including Kreed — A Tribute to Creed
and Benton Lawson. The Benton
Lawson concert was a partnership
between the City and Glade Parks.
The Parks, Police, and Fire
departments all hosted camps this
summer, and due to high demand,
all the camps were full. Kids got the
opportunity to play and learn about
various City departments under the
supervision of City staff. The Library
also hosted several special events
throughout the summer, including
Monkey See Monkey Do, Dino Bo,
and Animal Adventures. Of course,
there was also the popular HEB
Reads! summer reading challenge to
help kids develop their reading skills
over the break.
I hope you all had a wonderful summer
exploring our FabEuless City. As we
wrap up summer, I hope you can join
us for the final Summer Concert Series
performance by Chicago Tribute
Authority Texas on Friday, August 4
at 7 p.m. at Texas Star Golf Course.

down and flattened

boxes, tissue boxes and other packages
should also be broken down and flattened

Saving Money on
Ambulance Services
Did you know that the City of Euless does not balance
bill its citizens or employees for emergency medical
services received inside Euless? In other words, once
your insurance and/or Medicare (or other supplemental
insurance) has paid its agreed upon portion of your
emergency medical bill, you will not be billed for the
rest of the invoice. The balance bill is waived by the
City and no subscription is required.
This is because the Euless Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) is a division of the Euless Fire
Department and the City Council has elected to waive
balance bills for Euless residents without the need for
a paid subscription.
School Zone Safety Tips
August is back to school time. The first day of school
for HEB schools is August 10 and for Grapevine
Colleyville schools it's August 15. With children
walking to class or boarding buses, drivers need to be
extra careful when they are near schools and school
buses.
Here are a few rules of the road related to school
zones that drivers should keep in mind:
• Obey school zone speed limit signs.
• Put away your cell phone.
• Obey the crossing guard.
• Drop off and pick up children in the
designated areas.
• Watch for children running between vehicles.
• Stop for flashing red lights or a stop sign on a school
bus regardless of which direction you're headed.
Continue once the bus has moved, the flashing lights
stop flashing or the bus driver signals it's okay
to pass.
Kids are unpredictable, so drivers must take
precautions in and around school zones.

What Happens to Your
Tax Dollars
Have you ever wondered where your tax dollars go?
Every time you make a purchase in Euless that is
taxable, 6.25% of that sales tax goes to the State of
Texas and 2% goes to the City of Euless.
Property taxes are the largest revenue source for
the City. Therefore, if you own property, the City
property tax represents approximately 22% of your
overall property tax bill. Those tax dollars fund the
day-to-day operations of the City including 24-hour
police, fire and EMS service, public works, parks and
recreation, animal services, library services, building
inspections, code compliance and other essential City
services. The City also uses those tax funds for special
projects, such as renovating parks, improving streets,
and more.
As a property owner, 78% of your overall property tax
bill goes to fund the school district, county, hospital
district and the college district.

Call 811 Before You Dig:
It's the Law!
Calling 811 Reduces Risk of Damaged
Utility Lines by 99 Percent
Did you know that, before you dig, the law requires
you to call 811 to have all buried utility lines located
and marked? August 11 (8/11) serves as a reminder to
always call 811 before digging.
Calling 811 connects you to your local one -call center,
which notifies the appropriate utility companies of
your intent to dig. Professional locators then go to
the digging site to mark the locations of underground
utility -owned lines with flags and spray paint, free of
charge.
All excavators should call 811 at least three business
days before digging on public or private property.
The City of Euless maintains utilities including water
and wastewater mains. Public Works will locate these
utilities at no additional cost. For line locates on City
utilities, please call Public Works at 817-685-1580.
When you call 811 before digging, the chance of
hitting an underground utility line decreases to 99.9
percent.
Since 2008, Atmos Energy has seen a 47 percent
increase in requests by the public to have underground
natural gas lines marked. Once underground utility
lines are marked, it is important to take special care
around all line markings by digging by hand.
"The greatest risk to our natural gas pipelines is
accidental damage while digging," says John Paris,
president ofAtmos Energy's Mid -Tex division. "Even
minor damage, such as a scrape, dent or crease in a
pipeline or its coating, can cause a leak."
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs,
fines and inconvenient outages. Every digging project,
no matter how large or small, warrants a call to 811.
Installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree
and laying a patio are all examples of digging projects
that need a call to 811 before starting.
For more information about 811 and safe digging
practices, visit these websites: Ca118ll.com or
AtmosEnergy.com/81 1.
