HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-03-13Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 13, 2023 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:01 a.m. by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Patsy Hoover, Mary Hunt, Keith Jernigan, Norma Lively, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Peggy Vandiver, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Assistant City Manager Wes Rhodes and Parks and Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT None APPROVAL OF MINUTES A correction was made to the February 13, 2023 minutes regarding Committee Report/Input #2. Instead of Gary Parker, it should have been Linda Pool. Gary Parker made a motion to accept the February 13, 2023 minutes with the correction; Helen Payton seconded the motion. With unanimous approval, the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer Mavy Wright advised the February 13, 2023 balance was $8,366.43. An expense of $72.56 was made for a retirement plaque for Parks and Community Services Director The ending balance as of March 13 is $8,293.87. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—Linda Pool distributed signup sheets for the March and April Open House events. HPC MTG 03132023 Page 1 of 3 2. Acquisition —Linda Pool stated she had received a newspaper article from 1969 about the Fullers that was being donated by Bill Deacon. He found the article in an old Bible. She recommended it be framed and placed in the Fuller House. All agreed, and Committee funds would be used to prepare it for display. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool reported the Facebook page is active and working well. She placed a post in two places on Facebook to advertise the Open House, but only a few people attended on Saturday, March 11. Ms. Pool also stated a Women's Group had expressed interest in touring the Museum. Docent signup sheets for April and May were distributed. 4. Plaque—Mavy Wright stated the memorial plaque is being prepared. 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright and Suzy McCormick are planning to re -do the frames for the military photos. 6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—no report 7. Heritage Park —no report CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - no report STAFF REPORT - Assistant City Manager Wes Rhodes followed up on several issues from February meeting. The following items have been replaced/repaired/updated: AED battery, the Exit light, and museum hours on City website. He further mentioned he was unable to reach the Blacksmith about a future event. After a Committee discussion, he said he would try again and also have the Fire Marshal contact the group to discuss legalities of any Blacksmith demonstration. The Committee recommended arranging a Blacksmith demonstration during Heritage Park Christmas when there would be more attendance. Also funding was discussed regarding who is responsible for expenses related at the facility (City vs Historical Preservation Committee). COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT 1. Keith Jernigan remarked there is a directional sign on SH10 and Texas Star with a blank space which he suggested could be filled with "Heritage Park". He also submitted several photos he had discovered on the internet of Elvis Presley when he had visited the Western Hills Inn. The photos will be framed and placed on display in the museum and should be a welcome addition to the displays. HPC MTG 03132023 Page 2 of 3 2. Gary Parker stated the Blacksmith Shop was not properly constructed and could be used as a display once the repairs are made. 3. Anniece McKanna invited the Committee members to attend an upcoming birthday party for Peggy Vandiver in late April at Texas Star. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business or discussion, Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn, Mavy Wright seconded the motion.
