Parks and Leisure Services Board
August 07, 2023
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 PM. On
Monday, August, 07, 2023, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Jones. Other Board Members present: Steve Doty, John Raab, Roger Sickler and Jason Reyes.
Members absent: Isha Sharma and Magen Brown.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Recreation
Manger Elizabeth Johnson, Senior Center Supervisor Sonja Howard, Parks Manager Ryan Turner,
PATS General Manager Chris Thames and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn.
Visitors present: Daniel Thomas
INVOCATION
Roger Sickler gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 01,
2023 and June 05, 2023 regular meeting. Steve Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous.

II. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for June 111 — 30th 2023 and July
11t — 31st 2023:
a. Total man hours for June 111- 30th = 553
• 281 Horticulture
• 205 Forestry
• 21 Greenhouse
• 46 Special Projects
• 0 Training
➢ Trimmed shrubs along Westpark Way, at Fuller House, Library, Ector, City Hall,
PACS, Animal Control, South Euless
➢ Trimmed trees near trail markers 13 and 14
➢ Irrigation repair at Senior Center and Dog Park
➢ Power washed Bob Eden pavilions
➢ Replaced planks on VOBC bridge
➢ Removed dead trees at Texas Star Golf Course
➢ Mulched City Hall Beds
➢ Supplemental Mowing
b. Total man hours for July 1st —July 31" = 523
• 282 Horticulture
• 211 Forestry
• 15 Greenhouse
• 0 Special Projects
• 15 Training
➢ Repaired irrigation at DQ Corner, Dog Park, Mack Dr., and Library
➢ Raised trees along Main St. ROW from Mid -Cities to Glade
➢ Stump grinded at West Park and on Green Belt
➢ Trimmed hedges at Fuller House, Animal Control, Fire Station #3, Marquee
Signs, Rec, and Senior Center
➢ Mulched Public Works beds
➢ Trimmed Red Oak at City Hall, Mid -Cities Bridge trees, Bob Eden and Midway
➢ Mowed wildflower areas
➢ Forestry mulched along Mid -Cities ROW
➢ Repaired gate at Dog Park
➢ Dead tree removal at VOBC and Simmons

Ill. Parks and Communitv Services Reports
a. Recreation Report —Elizabeth Johnson
• Our first concert at Glade Park took place on July 14, 2023 with Benton Lawson
performing. There were a lot of people in attendance despite the 100-degree
weather.
• The Chicago Tribute band will be performing on August 4, 2023 at 7:OOpm at the
Texas Star Golf Course. This is a 10-piece band and all band members are over 60
years old.
• The Senior Center has been hosting several events. They had Cert Team training, a
Virtual Painting program, Senior float the river days, a Mystery lunch and a 4th of
July picnic.
• The 10-12-year-old summer campers had a lemonade stand and threw themselves
a party with Raising Canes with the money that was earned.
• The Aquatic staff has held lifeguard training where they practiced their skills. They
did relay races for training as well.
• Our new Aquatic Supervisor Richard Sharnsky trained a new assistant and 40+
lifeguards for the summer season.
• The lifeguard building has been set and B&S Fence relocated the fence.
• The lights at the Pickleball courts are working and are keeping the Pickleball courts
full.
b. Parks Report — Ryan Turner
• Daniel Dearborn has accepted a position with another city and Ryan Turner was
named the new Parks Manager.
• The Parks department has been busy working on the foundation and water lines at
the new lifeguard building at the Aquatic Park.
• The sand was tilled and new sand added at the volleyball courts at Bob Eden.
• The Wilshire Park project will be starting back on August 20, 2023. There were a
few design changes and is scheduled for a February 2024 completion date.
• Comments
c. Athletics Report— Chris Thames
• Chris Thames introduced himself to the Park Board.
• There have been 76 Baseball teams to sign up in the Spring League.
• There are 796 teams scheduled for the Spring Baseball tournament.
• BESA has 117 teams signed up.
• The new Athletic office has started and will hopefully be ready within the next few
months.

d. Community Services Report —Duane Strawn
• Duane Strawn introduced Daniel Thomas to the Park Board. Daniel is a member of
a Boy Scout troop and was needing some volunteer hours. He has been doing Park
Clean up for about 3 years. He has his friends who some are Scouts and some are
not come out to the Parks and help clean up. Daniel has already completed his
Eagle Scout project. Duane thanked Daniel for what he does and let him know he
can now report to Ryan Turner.
• Park Board shirts will be ordered for each Park Board member.
• Ryan Turner has been promoted and we now have an opening for a Park
Superintendent.
• Randy Leach has been announced as the August Employee of the Month.
• Larry Cook has received his 25-year service Pin.
Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports.

V. Input from Citv Council Members and Visitors
We had visitor who had questions about the Wilshire Park project. Ryan Turner spoke with the
visitor during the meeting and after to answer the questions that he had.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Jones gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:45 PM.
