MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LIBRARY BOARD
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2023
ITEM NO. I CALLED TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Chairperson Jorge Chac at 7:02 p.m.
on Thursday, September 7, 2023, in the Meeting Room of the library, at 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present
included: Chairperson Chac, Vice Chairperson Katherine Flannery, Board Members Barney Snitz, Jim
Hamilton, and Chris McAllister. Board Member Rochelle Ragas was not present.

ITEM NO.2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Chairperson Chac asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held on August 3,
2023. The motion was made by Mr. Snitz and seconded by Mr. Hamilton. All were in favor and the
motion carried.
ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS
Chairperson Chac welcomed all visitors.
ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
❖ Staff Update
Ms. Knight gave an update on the latest staff changes including the hiring of Savannah Harper and William
Joyce as new Library Aides. Ms. Harper and Mr. Joyce introduced themselves and gave an overview of
their personal and professional backgrounds. The board welcomed Ms. Harper and Mr. Joyce and
Chairperson Chac thanked them for their time.
❖ Library Update
Ms. Knight informed the board of the passing of the former mayor and library building's namesake, Mary
Lib Saleh, and spoke about the Celebration of Life scheduled to take place at the library the following day.
Mr. Hamilton inquired about the timeline of the event and Ms. Knight gave an overview of the itinerary.
Ms. Knight reviewed the latest statistical summaries and Stories of Impact, including one online review of
the library.
Ms. Knight informed the board of current advisory board and commission vacancies in the city of Euless
and asked the board to consider sharing this information with their family and friends.

d• Classes and Events Update
Ms. Jones gave an overview of upcoming classes and events including computer classes, U.S. citizenship
classes, the Read to Me program, Silent Book Club, and cybersecurity 101 classes. Ms. Jones encouraged
the board to attend any of the upcoming programs.
Ms. Knight informed the board that the month of September has been proclaimed "Library Card Signup
Month" by City Council and gave details regarding the library's plan to recognize this proclamation through
social media and gifts to new library card holders.
Chairperson Chac inquired about the attendance for the computer classes and Ms. Jones explained that the
registration is consistently high, however the attendance fluctuates.
ITEM NO.5 REPORTS
•S Library Board Chairperson
Chairperson Chac asked about the possibility of the library connecting with the local Animal Shelter for
adoption notices and possible partnership events. Ms. Jones expressed that the Programs Department is
exploring the idea of hosting a program such as a cat cafe.
Chairperson Chac inquired about events coming up in memory of 9/11 and Ms. Knight told the board of
the memorial at City Hall occurring on Monday, September 1 I". Ms. Portugal informed the board of the
annual Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb that is scheduled to take place on September 9c11
+ Library Board Vice Chairperson
Vice Chairperson Flannery reminded the board of the upcoming Murder Mystery Dinner being hosted by
the Euless Library Foundation on September 17"' and described the fundraising goal of the event — The
Legacy Lab. Mrs. Knight informed the board of the expected attendance and Mrs. Jones recalled the fun
had at the event last year.
Vice Chairperson Flannery inquired about the use of the meeting room for teenagers after school. Ms.
Knight reviewed the changes in rules and structure for the children using the library. Ms. Jones described
the activities available during this new program called Teen Schools Out Hang Out and the benefits of the
new structure.
Vice Chairperson Flannery reminded the board of the Foundation's upcoming book sale on October 14'
and encouraged the board to donate books toward their fundraising goal. Ms. Flannery also recalled
attending the Bedford Public Library's recent book sale.

Mr. McAllister expressed his appreciation for the card and plant sent by library staff during a recent ailment.
ITEM NO.6 PUBLIC COMMENTS
Ms. Portugal expressed her admiration and gratitude for the Teen S.O.H.O. program as well as the library's
outreach and community partnerships. Ms. Portugal reminisced about the late Mary Lib Saleh and spoke
on her experiences with the former Mayor.
ITEM NO.7 ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Chac asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Mr. Snitz and seconded by Mr.
Hamilton. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
