HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-554 01-10-1984RESOLUTION NO. 84 -554 WHEREAS, on November 21, 1983, came on to be heard before the Texas Highway Commission duly convened in Austin, Texas, a large delegation of municipal, county, and state officials, along with numerous representatives from quasi - public governmental entities, chambers of commerce, major employers, land- owners, and interested citizens from the Tarrant - Dallas County area; WHEREAS, each said above - mentioned groups and individuals appeared before said Commission in support of the northern extension of Highway 360 from Highway 183 to Highway 121 in Tarrant County (hereinafter referred to as the "Project "); WHEREAS, the following facts were conclusively demonstrated at said hearing: 1. The past, present, and future need for the Project; 2. The municipal, county, and state governmental support for the Project; 3. The cost effectiveness of the Project by virtue of significant right - of -way donations and frontage road assistance; 4. Delays in the approval and funding of the Project will result in significant and unnecessary increased costs to the taxpayers; 5. Delays in the construction of the Project will significantly con- tribute to an increase in the already overburdened traffic situation in and around DFW Airport and the mid- cities area; 6. The Project is of great significance to the north Texas region as a whole; 7. Vehicular traffic in and around DFW Airport will never flow smoothly and efficiently until all of the planned highway links around the airport are in place; and 8. The mid - cities area is currently without a complete north -south vehicular traffic artery to smoothly and efficiently move traffic in those directions; WHEREAS, at said hearing the Highway Commissioners explained very clearly and convincingly the funding needs of the Highway Department to be able to provide Texas with a vehicular transportation system of the first class. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Euless, by virture of the power and authority duly vested therein, THAT the City of Euless does hereby endorse and urge the Texas Highway Commission to immediately approve and fund the 360 north project and to expedite the Project's construction and opening in any and all ways to the maximum degree possible. FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Euless recognizes the overall funding needs of the Texas highway system, strongly supports the Highway Commission's desire to create a TEXAS HIGHWAY SYSTEM OF THE FIRST CLASS, and to the degree necessary to provide the stable and steady source of funds to create and maintain said HIGHWAY SYSTEM, the City of Euless supports an increase in state highway motor vehicle and gasoline related user taxes, to the level determined appropriate by the Texas Legislature in close consultation with the Texas Highway Department to get the job done. FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that copies of this RESOLUTION be immediately transmitted to the Governor, Lt. Governor, Speaker, our legislative delegation, members of the Texas Highway Commission, State and District Representatives of the Texas Highway Department, area municipal and county governments, area chambers of commerce, and members of the news media.
