HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-557 01-24-1984RESOLUTION NO. 84 -557 WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Title 28, Chapter 2, Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, the Election Code of the State of Texas, and the Euless City Charter, it is provided that there shall be held in each municipality in the State of Texas on the first Saturday in April of each year, a general election for the purpose of electing officials of said munici- pality. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1 The City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this date, does hereby order an election of officers for the City of Euless, Texas, to be held on Saturday, April 7, 1984, for the purpose of electing one Councilmember for Place One, one Councilmember for Place Three, and one Councilmember for Place Five, who shall serve for a period of two years, or until their successors have been duly qualified. The effective date of taking such office shall be as soon as the returns are canvassed and declared. The candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for the office of City Councilmember Place One, the candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for the office of City Councilmember Place Three, and the candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for Councilmember Place Five shall be declared elected to such offices. SECTION 2 For the purpose of said election, the entire City is hereby constituted one voting precinct; the polling place for said election shall be the City of Euless Community Building located at 201 North Ector Drive in said City, and said election shall be held between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. on the aforementioned date, as the following persons are hereby ap- pointed to act as election officers: Howard Wilkinson, Election Judge; and Dorothy Wilkinson, Assistant Election Judge. The Election Judge is authorized and directed to appoint one or more clerks to assist in the conduct of the election. SECTION 3 Applications for candidacy to the offices of City Council - member Place One, City Councilmember Place Three, and City Councilmember Place Five shall be made to the City Secretary of the City of Euless in manner and form as prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless, Texas. SECTION 4 The names of eligible and qualified candidates for such office shall be posted by the City Secretary and placed on the ballots for such election at the time and in the manner prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 5 All qualified voters determined by the laws of the State of Texas, the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless shall be entitled to vote at such election. Absentee voting shall be allowed and conducted within the times and in the manner provided by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 6 If voting machines are used for the conduct of the election, same shall be procured, maintained, operated, sealed, and the votes therefrom tabulated pursuant to procedures established and authorized by the laws of the State of Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 7 The results of the election shall be certified, canvassed, and returned in the form and manner proscribed by the laws of the State of Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 8 Notices of the election precribed by this Resolution shall be promulgated, published, and posted in keeping with the laws of the State of Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
