WHEREAS, H.B. 1315 would mandate joint elections of all
political subdivisions holding elections on the same day in all or
part of the same territory; and
WHEREAS, these elections would be difficult and confusing
in the urban areas of the state where many entities overlap; and
WHEREAS, the City of Euless conducts joint elections
through workable interlocal agreements; and
WHEREAS, H.B. 1315 would force the creation of at least
eight new polling locations for municipal and school elections
causing voter confusion and increasing election costs; and
WHEREAS, H.B. 1315 would have the effect of depriving
local elected authorities the right of administering local elec-
tions; and
WHEREAS, such legislation results in the denial of voting
rights of citizens in municipalities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS:
SECTION I.
SECTION II.
THAT the Euless City Council states its opposi-
tion to House Bill 1315 and request that the
House Elections Committee not report favorably
on the Bill to the full State House.
THAT this Resolution shall take effect from and
after its final_ date of passage, and it is ac-
cordingly so ordered.
