HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-09-11Historical Preservation Committee Minutes September 11, 2023 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:00am by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Patsy Hoover, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Faye Stinneford, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks & Community Services Director Duane Strawn and Parks & Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT Fleet and Facilities Staff, Kyle McAdams and Blake Cloud APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson McCormick declared there was a lack of quorum at today's meeting. TREASURER'S REPORT The beginning balance for September was $8,214.29. An expense of $160.10 was made in July for the purchase of custom framing in the Fuller House. On September 7, there was a donation of $200 to the Library Foundation in memory of former mayor, Mary Lib Saleh. There was also a $50 memorial gift donated by Weldon Cannon. The balance effective September 11, 2023 was $7,904.29. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—no report due to the absence of Linda Pool. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—no report. 4. Plaque —Ms. Stinneford noted the plaque will need to be updated due to the recent donation by Weldon Canyon. 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright noted she and Ms. McCormick are reviewing display items that need signs. She also mentioned the donations of a rocking chair that belonged to Mary Lib Saleh and also a working Victrola donated by Kerry McCombs. Anniece McKanna also HPC MTG 09112023 Page 1 of 2 donated a large wooden plaque showing the June 1, 1952 cover page of the Fort Worth Star -Telegram which was found while going through Peggy Vandiver's possessions. This was the wedding anniversary of Peggy and John Vandiver. Donation sheets will be prepared. 6. Publicity/Programs/Speal<ers—there was a discussion to invite Lance Tahmahkera (great - great grandson of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker) to speak at a future museum event in the Spring. Heritage Park —no report. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT— Ms. McCormick advised the group of the normal Christmas luncheon at Texas Star. Tentative date will be December 11. STAFF REPORT— Mr. Strawn introduced Kyle McAdams from the Fleet and Facilities Department who discuss foundation repairs to be done at the museum. Mr. McAdams mentioned the need for foundation repairs to the north side of the museum due to soil problems. The City will cover the expense by hiring Atlas Foundation; the plans are to schedule the repairs immediately. Mr. McAdams indicated many items will need to be removed from the walls and ceiling to protect them from any possible damage. If all goes well, the museum can be reopened for normal hours for the November Open House. The Committee made plans to remove the items at 10am on September 12, 2023. Mr. McAdams also noted the air conditioner had been replaced. Mr. Strawn advised us of upcoming events: Christmas parade on December 2 and Heritage Park Christmas on December 9. COMMITTEE REPORT / INPUT 1. There was a discussion on how to solicit interest in the museum and how to recruit new members. A local publication, "Arise" was mentioned to help publicize and a notification in the Water Bill. More giveaways could be done at Arbor Daze, Movies in the Park, displays at the Senior Citizen Center, Library, and Police Department. A suggestion was made the Committee could also enter a float in the upcoming Christmas parade if we would get enough members to help. 2. Ms. Stinneford offered the sale of tickets to the upcoming ECPAAA steak dinner fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, September 23 at the Senior Citizen Center from 6pm-8:30pm.
