HomeMy WebLinkAbout86-636 06-10-1986RESOLUTION NO. 86- 636 WHEREAS, the Dallas /Fort Worth Metroplex area is facing a critical shortage of radio frequencies for use by public safety and emergency services; and WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) currently has the allocation of eight MHz bands of reserve spectrum (821 -825 and 866 -870) under consideration; and WHEREAS, there is the threat that this portion of the 800 MHz reserve will be allocated for use by other competing interests, particularly mobile satellite communications; and WHEREAS, the Dallas /Fort Worth Metroplex area currently has no frequencies available to meet growing public safety needs; therefore, community com- munication systems cannot be expanded or improved; and WHEREAS, allocation by the FCC of the eight MHz bands would add 160 channels for immediate use; and WHEREAS, additional emergency radio frequencies are urgently needed for city public safety use in order to promote and protect the general health, safety and welfare of the community; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TARRANT COUNTY, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Euless urges the Federal Communications Commission to determine the effect to be given to the Congressional intent of Public Law 98 -214 and that MHz bands 821 -825 and 866- 870 be allocated to public safety use. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Euless urges other cities and entities with a need or potential need for additional public safety frequencies to make such needs known to the Federal Communications Commission. Section 3. That a copy of this resolution be mailed to Mark S. Fowler, Chairman, Federal Communications Commission, 1919 M Street, H.W., Washington, D. C. 20554.
