IN SUPPORT OF COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING AND
INTERGOVERNMENTAL COOPERATION IN THE
ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND DISPOSAL OF SOLID
WASTE
WHEREAS, Tarrant County recognizes that solid waste disposal is a
growing problem and regionwide issue that crosses city and county
boundaries; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Tarrant County are committed to the
safe, proper and environmentally sound disposal of solid waste;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth -- in order to meet the growing
needs of its population for increased landfill facilities -- is
proposing to enlarge their solid waste landfill that is located
within the boundaries of Precinct 2 in southeast Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that the siting or expansion of any
landfill facility be undertaken only after 1) a comprehensive
review of the impact of the landfill on the environment is
completed and 2) all interested and affected parties have had the
opportunity to review and comment on the plans; and
WHEREAS, positive communication among the various jurisdictions
in the County concerned with proper solid waste disposal can only
serve to minimize any potential damage to water and environmental
quality as well as help to ensure that any landfill facility is
safely located;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the City Council of
Euless, Texas, do hereby encourage the City of Fort Worth to work
with and take into account the environmental concerns of neigh-
boring communities in their decision - making process for a new or
expanded landfill and take all reasonable steps to minimize any
damage or potential damage to the environment of Tarrant County;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we, the City Council of Euless,
Texas, do hereby acknowledge the primary role that municipalities
play in the provision of solid waste disposal and landfill
services and therefore urge the various cities in Tarrant County
- - through the leadership of the Tarrant County Mayors' Council
- - to establish an ongoing cooperative planning process through
which effective, efficient and environmentally sound solid waste
disposal can be achieved.
PRESENTED AND PASSED this 26th day of April , 1988, by
a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions, at
a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Euless,
Texas.
