HomeMy WebLinkAbout88-679 04-26-1988RESOLUTION NO. 88 -679 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS ALLOWING NEW AND /OR EXPANDED LANDFILLS WITHIN THE VILLAGE CREEK WATERSHED AREA WHEREAS, the City of Arlington owns and operates Lake Arlington and furnishes treated drinking water to the cities of Arlington, Dalworthington Gardens, and Mansfield; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless is vitally interested in protecting and preserving the quality of water in the Lake Arlington watershed; and WHEREAS, the City of Arlington has entered into a contract with -Tarrant County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 to allow the transfer of untreated waters from Lake Arlington to the Trinity River Authority for processing and distribution of drinking water to the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville, North Richland Hills, Bedford, and Euless; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless has reviewed the City of Fort Worth's plan and application to the Texas Department of Health for expanding and improving their southeast landfill; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless desires and encourages a regional solution to solid waste management for the North Central Texas area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: I. That the City of Euless, Texas, opposes the issuance of any permit allowing new and /or expanded landfills within the Village Creek watershed area unless and until the following stipulations are met: 1. The Texas Department of Health and /or the Texas Water Commission can absolutely assure that the issuance of such permit will in no way jeopardize the ground and surface waters feeding Lake Arlington; and 2. The Texas Department of Health and /or the Texas Water Commission will absolutely ensure the competent operation of such facilities; and 3. All existing landfill facilities be upgraded to a level which absolutely assures the ground waters and surface waters in Lake Arlington are in no risk or jeopardy. PRESENTED AND PASSED on the 26th day of April , 1988, by a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions, at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas. Harold D.
