WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Title 28, Chapter 2, Revised Civil
Statutes of the State of Texas, the Election Code of the State of Texas, and
the Euless City Charter, it is provided that there shall be held in each
municipality in the State of Texas on the first Saturday in May of each year, a
general election for the purpose of electing officials of said municipality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1
The City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this
date, does hereby order an election of officers for the City of Euless, Texas,
to be held on Saturday, May 6, 1989, for the purpose of electing one
Councilmember for Mayor, one Councilmember for Place Two, and one Councilmember.
for Place Four, who shall serve for a period of two years, or until their
successors have been duly qualified. The effective date of taking such office
shall be as soon as the returns are canvassed and declared. The candidate
receiving a majority of the votes cast for the office of City Councilmember for
Mayor, the candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for City
Councilmember Place Two, and the candidate receiving a majority of the votes
cast for Councilmember Place Four shall be declared elected to such offices.
SECTION 2
For the purpose of said election, the entire City is hereby constituted one
voting precinct; the polling place for said election shall be the City of
Euless located at 201 north Ector Drive in said City, and said election shall
be held between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. on the aforementioned
date, as the following persons are hereby appointed to act as election
officers: Dorothy Wilkinson, Election Judge; and J. J. Birchard, Assistant
Election Judge. The Election Judge is authorized and directed to appoint one
or more clerks to assist in the conduct of the election.
SECTION 3
Applications for candidacy to the offices of City Councilmember for Mayor, City
Councilmember Place Two, and City Councilmember Place Four shall be made to the
City Secretary of the City of Euless in manner and form as prescribed by law,
and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless, Texas.
SECTION 4
The names of eligible and qualified candidates for such office shall be posted
by the City Secretary and placed on the ballots for such election at the time
and in the manner prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City
of Euless.
SECTION 5
All qualified voters determined by the laws of the State of Texas, the Charter
and Ordinances of the City of Euless shall be entitled to vote at such
election. Absentee voting shall be allowed and conducted within the times and
in the manner provided by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of
Euless.
SECTION 6
If voting machines are used for the conduct of the election, same shall be
procured, maintained, operated, scaled, and the votes therefrom tabulated
pursuant to procedures established and authorized by the laws of the State of
Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
SECTION 7
The results of the election shall be certified, canvassed, and returned in the
form and manner prescribed by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter
and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
SECTION 8
Notices of the election prescribed by this Resolution shall be promulgated,
published, and posted in keeping with the laws of the State of Texas, and the
Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 28th day of
February, 1989.
