WHEREAS, the City of Euless, Texas ( "Euless ") and the
Hurst - Euless- Bedford Independent School District ( "H -E -B ") desire to
conduct joint elections pursuant to the provisions of the Texas
Election Code, including the conduct of joint absentee voting and to
provide for the sharing of expenses; and
WHEREAS, Article 2.Olc provides for joint elections upon the passage
of a resolution by each of the governing bodies participating therein
reciting the terms of the agreement, including the method for
allocating expenses for the election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EULESS, TEXAS, AND THE TRUSTEES OF THE HURST - EULESS- BEDFORD
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT:
SECTION 1
The City of Euless and the Hurst - Euless- Bedford Independent School
District shall hold a joint election on the first Saturday in May for
the purpose of electing members of the Euless City Council and
Trustees to the H -E -B Board of Trustees. It is further agreed that
such election shall be conducted by the City of Euless at such polling
place as the City of Euless shall designate, utilizing the election
officers appointed by the City of Euless and that absentee voting
shall be conducted by the Euless City Secretary at such location as
the City of Euless shall name.
SECTION 2
Voting machines and /or paper ballots shall be utilized for the
election itself and a single ballot may be utilized containing all the
offices and propositions to be voted on at each polling place,
provided that no voter shall be given a ballot or permitted to utilize
a machine capable of casting a vote for any office or proposition on
which the voter is ineligible to vote. Returns may be made on forms
which are individual or combined, and the officer designated by law to
be the custodian of the records for the City of Euless shall be
designated as the custodian of the combined records.
SECTION 3
The expenses of the election shall be borne equally by Euless and
H -E -B, and H -E -B agrees to indemnify Euless for the cost of any
recount or election contest required for officers or propositions to
be voted on for H -E -B.
PASSED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 28th day
of February, 1989, by a vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, and 0
abstentions.
