A RESOLUTION ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE
CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, MAKING PROVISION FOR THE CONDUCT OF
THE ELECTION, AND RESOLVING THE NATTERS INCIDENT AND
RELATED TO SUCH ELECTION.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Election Code of the State of
Texas and the Euless City Charter, it is provided that there may be called a
special election for the purpose of filling a vacancy in office of the City
Council of the City of Euless.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1
The City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this
date, does hereby order a special election to fill a vacancy in office of the
City Council for the City of Euless, Texas, and that said election is to be
held on Saturday, May 6, 1989, for the purpose of electing one Council for
Place One, who shall serve for a period of an unexpired term of one year, or
until their successors have been duly qualified. The effective date of taking
such office shall be as soon as the returns are canvassed and declared. The
candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for the office of City Council
Place One shall be declared elected to such offices.
SECTION 2
For the purpose of said election, the entire City is hereby constituted one
voting precinct; the polling place for said election shall be the City of
Euless located at 201 North Ector Drive in said City, and said election shall
be held between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. on the aforementioned
date, as the following persons are hereby appointed to act as election
officers: Dorothy Wilkinson, Election Judge; and J. J. Birchard, Assistant
Election Judge. The Election Judge is authorized and directed to appoint one
or more clerks to assist in the conduct of the election.
SECTION 3
Applications for candidacy to the office of City Council Place One shall be
made to the City Secretary of the City of Euless in manner and form as
prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless, Texas.
SECTION 4
The period shall be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., beginning on Wednesday, March
29, 1989, and ending on Tuesday, April 4, 1989, at 5:00 p.m. for filing an
application for place on the ballot.
SECTION 5
The names of eligible and qualified candidates for such office shall be posted
by the City Secretary and placed on the ballots for such election at the time
and in the manner prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City
of Euless.
SECTION 6
All qualified voters determined by the laws of the State of Texas, the Charter
and Ordinances of the City of Euless shall be entitled to vote at such
election. Absentee voting shall be allowed and conducted within the times and
in the manner provided by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of
Euless.
SECTION 7
If voting machines are used for the conduct of the election, same shall be
procured, maintained, operated, scaled, and the votes therefrom tabulated
pursuant to procedures established and authorized by the laws of the State of
Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
SECTION 8
The results of the election shall be certified, canvassed, and returned in the
form and manner prescribed by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter
and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
SECTION 9
Notices of the election prescribed by this Resolution shall be promulgated,
published, and posted in keeping with the laws of the State of Texas, and the
Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless.
ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 28th day of
March, 1989.
