HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-715 10-10-1989RESOLUTION NO. 89 -715 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION NO. 8 - SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 24 - FOR FUNDING CONSTRUCTION OF NEW CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES WHEREAS, Governor Clements called for the construction of additional prison beds within his legislative request; and WHEREAS, the Texas Board of Corrections requested funding for construction of additional prison beds; and WHEREAS, Proposition No. 8 -- Senate Joint Resolution 24, referred to as "Proposition 8 ", was enacted during the 71st Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, Proposition No. 8 proposes an amendment to the Texas Constitution providing for the issuance of general obligation bonds for acquiring, constructing, or equipping corrections institutions, youth corrections institutions, statewide law enforcement facilities, and mental health retardation institutions; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless firmly believes that the constitutional amendment proposed by Proposition No. 8 is necessary to ensure the maintenance of law and order throughout the State of Texas while also ensuring humane treatment of inmates of the various institutions to be funded through the bond issuance; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless desires to encourage its members and the citizens of the City of Euless to support Proposition No. 8 at the general election to be held November 7, 1989. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas: (1) That the City of Euless fully supports the amendment to the Texas Constitution which will appear on the ballot of the general election on November 7, 1989, as Proposition No. 8; and (2) That the City of Euless will take whatever action it deems necessary and prudent to encourage its citizens to support and vote in favor of Proposition No. 8 in the general election on November 7, 1989.
