SUPPORTING THE NORTHEAST GANG TASK FORCE DIVERSION
PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford have combined
efforts and formed the "Northeast Gang Task Force" to combat the
growing gang problem in these communities by exchanging intelligence
information, educating law enforcement personnel, and enforcing
violations of the law; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Gang Task Force has developed a diversion
program to provide gang members with viable alternatives to gang
activity, and to educate them about the adverse effects gang
membership can have on their lives; and
WHEREAS, the Euless City Council recognizes the importance of
implementing such a program to discourage the youth of today from
choosing a life of crime, thus protecting the citizens of Euless from
becoming victims of criminal activity; and
WHEREAS, funds are available to finance the diversion program
through the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office for
grants to local governments; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Euless City Council
supports the submission of an application to the Criminal Justice
Division of the Governor's Office for the funding of the Northeast
Gang Task Force's Diversion Program, and if the application is
selected for funding, to implement and fulfill the purposes specified
in this resolution.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Euless, Texas, on the 9th day of February, 1993, by a vote
of 6 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
