HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-02-12_Amended 2024-03-08Historical Preservation Committee Minutes — amended 3/8/2024 February 12, 2024 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:00am by Mavy Wright and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Patsy Hoover, Keith Jernigan, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Norma Runyon, Faye Stinneford, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks & Community Services Director Duane Strawn, Parks & Community Services Assistant Director Elizabeth Johnson, and Parks & Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT Randy Leach (new Parks Manager) and Derrick Fennell (new Parks Superintendent) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Linda Pool made a motion to approve the December minutes, seconded by Faye Stinneford. With unanimous approval, Ms. Wright declared the motion carried. Norma Runyon made a motion to approve the January minutes with corrections, seconded by Patsy Hoover. With unanimous approval, Ms. Wright declared the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT The beginning balance effective today is $7,719.70. With no expenses/deposits, the current balance is $7,719.70. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment— Linda Pool circulated docent signup sheets for upcoming months. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool stated the social media posts are being well received, and she expressed appreciation for the excellent photos provided by PACS staff. There are currently 616 followers. 4. Plaque —no report. 5. Display Signs —no report. HPC MTG 02122024 - Page 1 of 2 6. Publicity/Programs/Speakers--Linda Pool recently attended an event with well-known local author Dave Leiber and purchased his book on Amon Carter. There was a discussion of possible speaker and recommendation to attend the play, "Amon! The Ultimate Texan" based on this book and starring local dignitary, Kelvin Dilks. 7. Heritage Park —no report. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT — Ms. Wright provided updates on Chairperson Suzy McCormick and other members who were absent today. STAFF REPORT— Mr. Strawn introduced Randy Leach and Derrick Fennell who were recently promoted in PACS. He advised the foundation work in the museum is a bit more complicated than anticipated and piers need to be replaced. He further advised Dalworth Carpet Cleaning could clean the carpet in the Fuller House. If the carpet cleaning failed, a new rug would be purchased or donated by the City and the Committee. The city will cover the cost of the cleaning or up to $300 for a new rug. A motion was made by Mavy Wright and seconded by Doris Brown to clean/replace the rug. There was a unanimous response and motion carried. Mr. Strawn stated there will be a presentation to City Staff on September 5. A recommendation was made for the HPC members to attend if possible. COMMITTEE REPORT / INPUT There was a recommendation for pest control in the facilities, the remote that controls the fans is non -operational and the fans are not working, cosmetic updates in the museum, and re- attaching rails to the wall for pictures to be hung once they are re -framed. A discussion arose about memorabilia from Mosier Valley. A possible field trip to the area and contacting family members was suggested. Keith Jernigan volunteered to visit TCC to research their exhibits and collections. Michele Burger reported on several Euless -related items she acquired at Angels Attic Upscale Retail in Grapevine. A suggestion was made to invite a speaker on blacksmithing and a possible demonstration. It was agreed that the Euless Fire Marshall would be involved in the decision. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Gary Parker, seconded by Faye Stinneford to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Wright declared the meeting adjourned at 10:45am.
