HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-03-11Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 11, 2024 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:01am by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Michele Burger, Randy Byers, Elaine Green, Patsy Hoover, Mary Hunt, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Joe Robinson, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks Superintendent Derrick Fennell VISITORS PRESENT None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gary Parker made a motion to accept the February minutes, seconded by Elaine Green. With unanimous approval, Ms. McCormick declared the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT The beginning balance effective today is $7,719.70. There was one expenditure of $78.88 for the memory plaque, and a deposit of $20.25 from the money jar. The ending balance effective March 11 is $7,661.07. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment— The Open House museum docent signup sheets for April and May were circulated. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—no report. 4. Plaque—Mavy Wright reported the memory plaque has been updated and is ready to be mounted on the museum wall. 5. Display Signs —no report. 6. Publicity/Programs/Speakers—no report. 7. Heritage Park —Gary Parker inquired as to the exterminator making a visit to the Fuller House to check on rats and squirrels; there is a broken vent on north side of the building that needs replacing. Randy Byers also mentioned the tree on the southeast corner of the HPC MTG 03112024 - Page 1 of 2 barn needed trimming. Mr. Fennell indicated the exterminator had come to the Museum and Fuller House. He also mentioned the staff had done light trimming and work on the gutters of the Fuller House. He would take care of the issues raised today. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT— Ms. McCormick stated the upcoming solar eclipse would be taking place on the same day as our next meeting of April 8. The City is sponsoring an event that day at the Parks at Texas Star, so she suggested we cancel our April meeting due to the anticipated crowds. With unanimous approval, the April meeting will be cancelled. STAFF REPORT— No report. However, Ms. Wright remarked the Fuller House rug was damaged so badly that Dalworth Carpet Cleaning would not attempt to clean it. Linda Pool is searching for a replacement within the City of Euless. The City has budgeted approximately $300 toward the replacement with the Committee picking up any remaining balance. COMMITTEE REPORT / INPUT Ms. Wright reported the photos for the Wall of Honor have been reframed and are ready to hang when allowed. Gary Parker stated he and another member will be hanging the photos soon. Keith Jernigan presented a copy of a map of the Master Plan for Mosier Valley Park from the City of Fort Worth. The budget is $640,000. The members expressed interest in paying a visit. Mary Hunt mentioned the 90th birthday of Weldon Cannon will be held on Sunday, April 21 from 2:30-4:30pm at the Christ Episcopal Church in Temple. A copy of the invitation information was provided to the attendees along with the RSVP info and mailing address for cards. If anyone wants to carpool, please meet at the Museum at noon on Sunday, April 21. Anniece McKanna announced ticket sales have begun for the annual Euless Fire Department Steak Dinner fundraiser which will be held at the Senior Citizen Center on Midway Drive on Saturday, May 18. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Gary Parker, seconded by Mavy Wright to adjourn the meeting. Ms. McCormick declared the meeting adjourned at 10:35am.
