HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-821 08-24-1993RESOLUTION 93 -821 WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 201.051 of the Election Code of the State of Texas and the Euless City Charter, it is provided that there shall be held a special election for the purpose of filling a vacancy in office of the City Council of the City of Euless; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, THAT SECTION 1 The City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this date, does hereby order a special election for the City of Euless, Texas, to be held on November 2, 1993, for the purpose of electing one Council Member for Place Five, who shall serve for the unexpired term ending May 7, 1994, or until a successor has been duly qualified. The effective date of taking such office shall be as soon as the returns are canvassed and declared. The candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast for the office of City Council Place Five shall be declared elected to such office. SECTION 2 For the purpose of said election, the entire City is hereby constituted into two voting precincts. The polling place for said election shall be Bear Creek Elementary School, 401 Bear Creek Drive, Euless, Texas 76039, and City of Euless Midway Park Recreation Center, 300 W. Midway Drive, Euless, Texas 76039, and said election shall be held between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the aforementioned date. SECTION 3 Applications for candidacy to the office of City Council Member Place Five shall be made to the City Secretary of the City of Euless not sooner than 8:00 a.m., August 25, 1993, and not later than 5:00 p.m., September 28, 1993, in the manner and form as prescribed by law,. and tbe- Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless, Texas. SECTION 4 The names of eligible and qualified candidates for such office shall be placed on the ballots for such election by the City Secretary at the time and in the manner prescribed by law, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 5 All qualified voters determined by the laws of the State of Texas, the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless shall be entitled to vote at such election. Early voting shall be allowed and conducted within the times and in the manner provided by law, and the Charter'and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 6 The results of the election shall be certified, canvassed and returned in the form and manner prescribed by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. SECTION 7 Notices of the election prescribed by this Resolution shall be promulgated, published and posted in keeping with the laws of the State of Texas, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Euless. ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 24th day of August, 1993, by a vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
