The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:02 PM. On
Monday, April, 01, 2024, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Jones. Other Board Members present: Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Laird Leavoy and Zariyan Stark.
Members absent: John Raab and Magen Brown.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Assistant Parks
and Community Service Director Elizabeth Johnson, Parks at Texas Star General Manager Chris
Thames, Aquatics/Senior Superintendent Richard Sharnsky, Recreation Superintendent Alex
Harvey and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn.
Visitors present: Loretta Doty
INVOCATION
Roger Sickler gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March
04, 2024 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented
and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Magen Brown — West Park & Wilshire: Not present.
b. Steve Doty — Midway, Blessing Branch, J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report.
c. John Raab — Bob Eden & Trailwood: Not present.

II. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Roger Sickler reported the following for March 1st — 3111, 2024:
a. Total man hours for March 11t — 311t = 365

Planted 8 Afghan Pines at Glade Park Trail
➢
Replaced 3 dead Fall Elm at Glade Park Trail

Planted 1 Vitex and 1 Green Ash at Glade Park Trail

Removed 3 dead American Elms at McCormick West
➢
Removed 1 Bradford Pear on Main St. Greenbelt due to storm damage
➢
Trimmed trees over sidewalk on east side of Greenbelt
➢
Removed 2 dead Lacebark Elm trees on Harwood median
➢
Removed dead tree near Villages of Bear Creek small playground
➢
Removed all branches of dead Red Oak on species trail
➢
Removed 5 dead trees at J.A. Carr Park

b. Parks Report — Elizabeth Johnson
• Wilshire mulch project almost complete
• Tree City USA — 38 years. 5th Longest in Texas. Growth Award — 33 Years. Longest
City in Texas
• Removed elm tree at Villages of Bear Creek
• Removed trees and did stump grinding in median
• Stump grinding at McCormick

• Kites over Euless + Texas Trash Off — April 6, 2024
• Total Eclipse at The Star —April 8, 2024

• Lover — Taylor Swift Tribute Show — May 10, 2024
• Movie in the Park was held at Glade Park with Shrek II playing with 30-50 people in
attendance.
• We are currently in enrollment for Summer Adventure Camp. We are still
accepting forms for 7-12-year olds.
• The Euless Family Life Center set up a both at the City Wellness Fair. The booth
went over well and even won an award!
d. Aquatics & Senior Center Report — Rich Sharnskv
• The 2nd Annual Easter Splash was a big hit. 2500 eggs were used with a plan to do
at least 5000 next year. There were golden eggs hidden. When those were found
the winners were awarded bigger gift baskets.
• We are currently accepting applications and are in the process of summer hiring.
We have received 112 applicants and 20-30 applicants in the hiring process.
• A new 3D rendering of the Aquatic Park was presented and will hopefully be used
during the summer season.
• The Senior Center held the following events, AARP meeting, Coffee with the Chief,
Taco Cook -Off, Farmers Market, Bunco, Pool Tournament, Mystery Lunches and an
Easter Party.
E. Directors Report — Duane Strawn
• We would like to welcome our new Park Board member Zariyan Stark.
• The Parks Master Plan is currently in process and is expected to continue for at
least 1 year.
• The focus groups for the Parks Master plan went well and very well attended.
Thank you for those that attended and participated in the process.
• Volleyball court lights have been installed and are on a timer. The court is open for
play.
• Wilshire Park is well on its way for completion. The Parks staff is currently
preparing the flower beds.
• Wilshire will hopefully have a soft opening in mid -May with a ribbon
cutting/dedication to take place in June 2024.
Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports.

Chairman Jones gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:55 PM.
