HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-05-13Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 13, 2024 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:01am by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Randy Byers, Patsy Hoover, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Norma Runyon, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks and Community Services Director - Duane Strawn and Parks & Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gary Parker made a motion to accept the March minutes, seconded by Patsy Hoover. With unanimous approval, Ms. McCormick declared the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT The beginning balance effective today is $7,661.07. There was a deposit of $84. The ending balance effective May 13 is $7,745.07. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment— The Open House museum docent signup sheets for June, July, August and September were circulated. She reminded the members there are no meetings in July or August. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool stated she is continuing to post in many Facebook groups and encouraged members to share, too. 4. Plaque —no report. 5. Display Signs —no report. 6. Publicity/Programs/Speakers—no report. 7. Heritage Park —Gary Parker inquired as to the status of the vent repair/replacement to the Fuller House attic to prevent rodent access. HPC MTG 05132024 - Page 1 of 2 CHAIRMAN'S REPORT— Ms. McCormick discussed the suggestion to renovate and remodel the museum kitchen and Music Room to allow for more display space and flow for visitors to fully experience what the museum has to offer. There is much to consider and discuss regarding estimates, budgeting, and timing. STAFF REPORT— Duane Straun noted the foundation plans will be needing budget approval by City Council. Then the plumbing will be addressed. He confirmed the vent repair/replacement is being handled. He reminded the members of the short show -and -tell museum presentation to 20-30 City Staff members in September. We could provide pamphlets, fans, and a video/slideshow. The Committee members would be welcome to attend. COMMITTEE REPORT/ INPUT Ms. Wright reported the wallpaper in the Fuller House needs to be repaired or replaced because it is about 20 years old. It's difficult to find wallpaper appropriate for the period. It was mentioned Old House Supply in Fort Worth might be able to help with vintage items. Linda Pool mentioned a new acrylic rug and pad for the Fuller House had been purchased and will be placed on the floor after the meeting. The cost of the rug was purchased from Kirkland's online at $365, the cost of the pad was $49. The City will contribute $300 toward the purchase. A motion was made by Doris Brown to reimburse Linda Pool, seconded by Norma Runyon. With unanimous approval, Chairperson McCormick declared the motion passed. Linda Pool added that she and her husband had attended Weldon Cannon's 90t" birthday party. The party was a huge success and was well attended. Sadly, Weldon may not be physically able to return to Euless activities. It is hoped he can attend the Christmas luncheon. Anniece McKanna stated she had recently taken photos of the 2nd floor of the Fuller House and hopes to prepare them for display. The performance of "Amon! The Ultimate Texan" will be at the Grapevine Palace Theater in July. Several of the members expressed interest in attending. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Gary Parker, seconded by Linda Pool to adjourn the meeting. Ms. McCormick declared the meeting adjourned at 10:43am.
