In May, our thoughts turn to the end of the school year and the beginning of summer activities. Fortunately, our City has fun events planned for people of all ages. On May 10, Lover, the Taylor Swift Tribute Band, is holding a free outdoor concert at Glade Parks. Swifties will especially enjoy this Eras -like concert. Also, don't forget that Mother's Day is May 12. The perfect way to treat your mom is a delicious brunch buffet at Raven's Grille at Texas Star Golf Course (reservations required). May 11 is the HEB Reads! summer reading challenge kick-off party. There will be free STEM kits, games, and fun activities for all to enjoy. Let's get children excited to use their imagination and immerse themselves in a good book. The weather in May is the ideal time to get outside and explore Euless' parks, playgrounds, and trails. Mark your calendars for May 25, as the Euless Family Life Aquatic Park opens for the season. So bring the whole family for a splashing good time. I hope you all have the opportunity to experience some of the programs and events the City has to offer. 2023 Volunteers of the Year Awarded The City of Euless is fortunate to have a strong, toyal group of volunteers. The City would not be able to host events, run meetings or do a large variety of tasks without them. The City of Euless honors volunteers each year to celebrate the dedication and service of these outstanding people. Lifetime Contribution Award Harry and Diane Zimmer are the recipients of the Lifetime Contribution Award. Harry Zimmer has served Euless as a volunteer on various boards and commissions for more than 10 years, most recently as a Euless City Council Member. He is a retired Professional Engineer with 30 years of management experience. He also serves on the boards of the Chippeway Park Water Association and the Forest Points Estates Owners Association. Harry focuses much of his community outreach with 6 Stones, a catalyst for hope throughout the HEB community. Diane Zimmer is a lifetime member of the Euless Library Foundation (ELF), and has served on the Foundation's Board of Directors for many years. In 2022, she had the honor of achieving Director Emeritus status. Most recently, she has served as Membership Chair of ELF, working tirelessly to grow the organization and encouraging community involvement with the library. Harry and Diane have given countless hours of dedicated service to the City of Euless for many years, and the City congratulates them for being the recipient of the Lifetime Contribution Award. He serves as the Program Manager for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). He is a member of the Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association (past president), the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and the Euless Amateur Radio Club (past president). James also participates in the monthly outdoor warning siren testing through Emergency Management and helps coordinate monthly senior programs at the Euless Senior Center. James co -led an effort to implement electronic tracking of volunteer hours for all City volunteer groups. Volunteer Group of the Year 6 Stones is this year's recipient of the Volunteer Group of the Year Award. This organization assists those in need in Euless and the Mid -Cities. Its leadership in the Community Powered Revitalization (CPR) and the Night of Hope programs has assisted untold numbers of Euless citizens. It has also donated bottled water to the Euless Fire Department and has assisted with the winter blanket donation program. Summer Reading Challenge Kick -Off Party Saturday, May 11,10 a.m. - I p.m. Pennington Field,1501 Central Drive, Bedford Join us for a Kick -Off Party for HEB Reads!, a community -wide summer reading challenge. There will be free STEM kits, games, entertainment, and fun activities. Plus, all attendees will receive a free book. Participants of HEB Reads! sign up online and track their reading minutes. This year's Reading Challenge is to read 2,000 minutes. There will be fun prizes given at 250, 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 minutes read. All reading incentives are provided and available for pick-up at the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library. To get started on the 2024 Reading Challenge, sign up at www.HEBreads.org. Volunteer Business of the Year Euless B&B Wrecker is the recipient of this year's Volunteer Business of the YearAward. B&B Wrecker assists the Euless Fire Department by providing vehicles and a location for extrication training. They also assist the Northeast Fire Department Association (NEFDA) with heavy rescue training. Most recently, they donated a truck that is used to deploy an attenuator to accidents on state highways to protect first responders and City equipment. They are always available and willing to assist however and whenever needed. New Water Payment Options The City of Euless recently implemented a more secure, convenient, and user-friendly water bill payment platform, Paymentus. New features include a "Pay Now" option that allows for quick payment without having to register an account. Registered account benefits include viewing and paying multiple accounts at once, viewing payment history and consumption information, and viewing past water bill statements. It also gives the options to sign up for paperless billing, email reminders, and the opportunity to sign up for autopay from your PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, checking account, or savings account. Please call 817-685-1471 for this feature. 817-685-14", www evless X LIV Volunteer Youth of the Year Jerry Rivera is this year's recipient of the Volunteer Youth of the Year Award. He was honored for his role in organizing Trinity band members for the Mayor's Red Kettle Challenge, a fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Besides volunteering for the City of Euless, Jerry is a high achiever at Trinity High School. He is taking advanced classes as an International Baccalaureate (IB) student, plays the euphonium with the Trinity band, is Vice President of the Science Honor Society, is Treasurer of the Environmental Club, and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Junior World Affair Council. In the fall, Jerry plans to attend the University of Houston as a Finance major. Parents can supervise the activities on the tranquil waterfall bench with continuously flowing water to help keep cool. Older children with a sense of adventure can choose from two flume slides and one run -out slide (48- inch height requirement) that are 28 feet high, play basketball in the pool, or test their agility on the lily pad walk (48-inch height requirement). There are several shaded and non -shaded seating areas with picnic tables and lounge chairs around the pool, as well as a concession stand and bathhouse. Midway Drive This summer, keep your children entertained and engaged. Euless' Summer Adventure Camp is packed full of fun adventures and daily events. Activities range from sports, games, arts, crafts, and more. All you have to do is bring lunch, two snacks, and a water bottle to camp every da . Everything else is taken care of. Camp runs June 3 through August 2, but there's no camp during the week of July 4. Enroll today, because spots fill up quickly! Get a Registration Form in person at the Euless Family Life Center, or online at recreation.eulesstx.gov. Parents receive a Parent Handbook, Youth Standards of Care, and other pertinent information at the time of registration.
