Dear Citizens,
We have almost
made it through
41 another Texas
E summer, and
I hope you all
had the chance
to take part
wo
:. in some of
the amazing
programs our wonderful City
had to offer. Our staff is always
working to provide events for all
ages, and I believe they have done
a fantastic job accomplishing that.
The Euless Library, Parks and
Community Services Department,
Fire Department, and Police
Department all had amazing
programs to entertain and educate
citizens of all ages. Also, you
still have time to cool off at our
Aquatic Park before it closes for
the season after September 2.
With summer coming to an end
and our travels mostly complete, I
would like to let you know about
our Clear the Shelters event.
Our shelter and our fosters are
currently full, and this is a chance
to find these sweet animals forever -
loving homes. This event will
be held from August 22 through
August 24, when the Euless
Animal Shelter and our volunteer
foster group, Trinity GAP,
will be waiving adoption fees.
Please refer to the article in this
newsletter for more information.
So, come find the perfect addition
for your family.

Clear the Shelters is the perfect time to adopt a pet. The Euless Animal Shelter is
once again waiving its adoption fees for all dogs and cats, as well as spay/neuter
fees and rabies vaccine fees. When you adopt, you save two lives — the pet you
adopt and the pet that now has a place in the shelter.
In 2014, Clear the Shelters began in the DFW area to help ease the overcrowding
that occurs in shelters every summer. This pet adoption drive quickly spread to
cities across the U.S. In fact, more than 1 million pets across the country have found
their forever homes since 2015. Join us August 22 through 24, as we seek to Clear
the Shelters and find new homes for some amazing pets! For more information, call
817-685-1594.

disadvantaged children. Approximately 60% of
HEB ISD students come from homes that fall in
this category. You can help one of these children
for just $40 or you can "adopt" a whole classroom
for $800. Volunteers are a vital conponent of this
community mobilization as it distributes supplies
and hope for the start of the school year. Adults and
children 16 years and older are welcome to volunteer

Saturday & Sunday, August 31 & September 1,
Noon — 7. 00 p.m.
Monday, September 2, Noon — 6: 00 p.m.
*Hours are subject to change.
Spend Labor Day weekend at the Euless Family Life
Aquatic Park. The Aquatic Park is closing for the
season after Monday, September 2, so this is your
last chance to enjoy the pool and the other aquatic
activities the park has to offer.
Bring your whole family to the Aquatic Park, where
there's fun for everyone! Float down the lazy river,
explore the water playground, splash in the fountains,
zoom down the flume slides, hop across the lily pad
walk, or simply relax on the lounge chairs by the
pool. Pack a tasty picnic or visit the concession stand
to make your day complete.
And don't forget, although the Aquatic Park is only
open during the summer, Euless' Natatorium is open
year-round. Located inside the Euless Family Life
Center, it's an indoor, temperature -controlled pool
that accommodates recreational swimming, exercise
classes, and swim lessons.
SLOW
DOWN
Back -to -School
Refresher
Drivers should anticipate increased traffic as children
return to school this month. Kids walking to class
or boarding buses can be easily distracted, so it's
important to allow extra time for your commute,
and exercise additional caution in school zones and
residential areas.
Obey school zone speed limit signs
Put away the cell phone
Obey the crossing guard
Drop off and pick up children in the designated
areas
Look for crosswalks and prepare to stop
Watch for children running between vehicles
Stop for flashing red lights or a stop sign on a
school bus regardless of which direction you're
headed, as this is the law
Do not pass unless: the school bus has resumed
motion, you are signaled by the driver to proceed,
or the red lights are no longer flashing
The first day of school for HEB schools is August 12,
and for Grapevine-Colleyville schools, it's August 14.
Let's make this school year a safe one for everyone
going back to school.
Call 811 Before You Dig. -
It's the Law!
Calling 811 Reduces Risk of Damaged Utility
Lines by 99 Percent
Did you know that before you dig, the law requires
you to call 811 to have buried utility lines located
and marked? August 11 (8/11) serves as a reminder
to always call 811 and your local municipality before
digging.
Calling 811 connects you to your local call center,
which notifies the appropriate utility companies
of your intent to dig. This excludes water and
wastewater lines. Professional locators then go to
the dig site to mark the locations of underground
utility -owned lines with flags and spray paint, free
of charge.
All excavators should call 811 at least two business
days before and no more than 14 days prior to digging
on public or private pproperty. The City of Euless
maintains utilities includmg water and wastewater
mains. Public Works will locate these utilities at
no additional cost. For line locates on City utilities,
please call Public Works at 817-685-1694. When
you call 811 before digging, the chance of hitting an
underground utility line decreases to less than one
percent.
Since 2008, Atmos Energy has seen a 36 percent
increase in requests by the public to have underground
natural gas lines marked. Once underground utility
lines are marked, it is important to take special care
around all line markings by digging by hand.
"The greatest risk to our natural gas pipelines is
accidental damage while digging," said John Paris,
President of Atmos Energy's Mid -Tex Division.
"Even minor damages, such as a scrape, dent, or
crease in a pipeline or its coating, can cause a leak."
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs,
fines, and inconvenient outages. Every digging
project, no matter how large or small, warrants a call
to 811. Installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting
a tree, and laying a patio are all examples of digging
projects that need a call to 811 before starting.
For more information about 811 and safe digging
practices, visit these website: call8ll.com or
atmosenergy.com/81 1.
What Happens to Your
Tax Dollars
Have you ever wondered where your tax dollars go?
Every time you make a purchase in Euless that is
taxable, 6.25% of that sales tax goes to the State of
Texas and 2% goes to the City of Euless.
Property taxes are the largest revenue source for the
City. The City property tax represents approximately
24% of your overall property tax rate. Those tax
dollars fund the day-to-day operations of the City,
including 24-hour police, fire, and EMS services,
public works, parks and recreation, animal services,
library services, building insy)ections, code
compliance, and other essential City services. The
City also uses those tax funds for special projects,
such as renovating parks, improving streets, and
more.
The remaining 76% of your overall property tax
rate goes to fund the school district, county, hospital
district, and the college district.
Did You Know?
Mosquito activity is at its peak during the summer.
A study performed in 2023 showed that the Dallas -
Fort Worth metroplex had the third -highest amount
of mosquitoes in the country. The City of Euless
has nine mosquito monitoring traps throughout the
City. These traps are monitored and tested weekly, in
cooperation with Tarrant County Public Health, for
mosquito -borne illnesses, such as West Nile virus,
Zika virus, and St. Louis Encephalitis virus. Mosquito
spraying is only done in response to a positive test
result in Euless. To help prevent mosquitoes, and
reduce the risk of spreading illnesses, residents are
encouraged to:
• Eliminate standing water
• Fix water leaks
• Protect and clean pools and ponds
• Clean birdbaths once a week
• Clean rain gutters
• Install and repair screens on windows and doors
• Remove or tip over water -collecting objects
• Keep lawn trimmed
Residents can signup for email notifications regarding
mosquito spraying by visiting www.eulesstx.gov/
enotification and enrolling in Community Alerts. For
general questions or concerns regarding mosquitoes,
call Public Works at 817-685-1580.
