HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-12-11Historical Preservation Committee Minutes December 11, 2023 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 11:OOam by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Texas Star Conference Centre, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Michele Burger, Randy Byers, Joe Cannon, James Fuller, Elaine Green, Patsy Hoover, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Joe Robinson, Norma Runyon, Faye Stinneford, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks & Community Services Director Duane Strawn and Parks & Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. New to the staff is Liz Johnson, Assistant Director of Parks & Community Services. VISITORS PRESENT None; the following City Staff and Council members attended the Christmas lunch after the formal meeting: Tika Paudel, Jeremy Tompkins, Wes Rhodes, Tim Stinneford, Linda Martin, Chris Barker, and Eddie Price. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Due to the fact the September meeting minutes were tabled, Faye Stinneford made a motion to accept the minutes with the correction to the spelling of Mrs. Saleh's name and were seconded by Linda Pool. With unanimous approval, Chairperson McCormick declared the motion carried. Patsy Hoover made a motion to accept the November minutes as written; Faye Stinneford seconded the motion. With approval, the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT The balance effective November 23, 2023 was $7,761.29. A collection from the money jar of $49 was deposited. The balance effective December 11, 2023 is $7,810.29. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment— Linda Pool distributed the docent signup sheets for January and February. 2. Acquisition —no report. HPC MTG 12112023 Page 1 of 2 3. Facebook—Linda Pool was pleased with the turnout at the Heritage Park Christmas event and declared it was a huge success. She expressed gratitude to City Staff for the newly created museum photos which had been shared on social media and led to record numbers in attendance. She thanked Council and Staff for their attendance. 4. Plaque —Ms. Stinneford stated the plaque is beinE updated as needed. 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright had no report. However, she mentioned there was an inquiry about the Calloway Cemetery from an attendee at the Open House. 6. Publicity/Programs/Speal<ers—Ms. Wright plans to invite Lance Tahmahkera (great -great grandson of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker) to speak at a future museum event in the Spring. 7. Heritage Park —no report. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT — Ms. McCormick welcomed the new members and thanked all who played a part in the success of the December Open House. She also expressed appreciation to the dignitaries who have joined us for lunch. STAFF REPORT— Mr. Strawn stated he was impressed with the Christmas event and that things appeared to run smoothly. He stated the choir performances also led to increased attendance. He also took a moment to introduce Liz Johnson who is the new Assistant Director of the Parks and Community Services.
