A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS
MUNICIPAL LEAGUE SUPPORT AN AMENDMENT TO
THE PROPERTY TAX CODE IN REGARDS TO THE
EFFECTIVE TAX RATE CALCULATIONS.
WHEREAS, SECTIONS 33.07, 33.01, 11.13 and 301.001 of Vernon's Civil Statutes
Annotated, enables cities to levy a property tax; and
WHEREAS, the City of Euless projects total receipts from this tax in excess of $5.9
million for the 1994 -95 fiscal year (October 1 - September 30); and
WHEREAS, the calculations for the effective tax rate are confusing to the public,
council, and staff, and therefore difficult to communicate; and
WHEREAS, an amendment could simplify and clarify the process of setting tax rates;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Euless,
Texas, requests that the Texas Municipal League support an amendment to the
property tax code regarding the effective tax rate calculation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Euless City Council encourages other Texas
local jurisdictions to likewise request the Texas Municipal League to support the
amendment of the state property tax code to provide for amendment of the effective tax
rate calculation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council and staff resolve to work with
members of our Congressional delegation to inform them about the impact of the
effective tax rate calculations and actions necessary to reduce their burdens on our
citizens and City Council.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the
23rd day of August, 1994.
