HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-02-25243 Called Meeting Euless City Council February 25, 1958 The City Council met in special session on February 25, 1958, at 7 :30 p.m. Present were Mayor Ernest Millican, Jr., and Councilmen J. S. Anderson, S. H. Cadenhead, Paul Horton, and W. 0. Murray. Meeting with the Council on official business were F i r e Chief A. B. G i l l , Chief of Police W. M. Sustaire, and a group of citizens from Midway Park who discussed, with the Council, the dog problem in our City. A copy of the dog ordinance now in force in Arlington was read by Mr. John Pemsell, after which solutions to the problem were discussed. On a motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Anderson, a motion was adopted to submit the Arlington Dog Ordinance to Attorney Bondurant for further study and any amending necessary for the ordinance to meet the needs of the City of Euless. The motion provided that the ordinance be set up on a "PROGRESSIVE FINE" basis, and that Article 4, Section 4.07 be omitted. An a d d i t i o n a l clause provided that the C i t y w i l l pick up and destroy dogs at the expense and request of the owners. A final clause changed Article 3, Section 3.05 to read "THIRTY SIX HOURS" instead fo the original 48 hours, and Article 3, Section 3.08 be changed to read 1114 DAYS" in lieu of the 10 days. Councilman Cadenhead offered a motion, seconded by Councilman Murray, that F i r e Chief A. B. G i I I and Councilman B i l l Murray, Fire Commissioner, be instructed to proceed with their efforts to secure bids on the purchase of fire equipment and a new fire truck. The motion was adopted . A motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Murray, proposed that the salary of Patrolman Wilson be made effective as of February 25, 1958. The motion was adopted. On a final motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Anderson, it was proposed that the City pay its employees Councilman Anderson made a motion, with a second by Councilman Murray, that the City pay City Secretary, T. A. Kennard, one month's salary during his illness and absence from duty as a provision for sick leave and vacation during his past services with the City. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. A second motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Horton, moved that the Mayor and the City Council appoint a committee to make a study of the present and future needs of the City of Euless. The motion was adopted. A motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Murray, proposed that the salary of Patrolman Wilson be made effective as of February 25, 1958. The motion was adopted. On a final motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Anderson, it was proposed that the City pay its employees "9 44 (Page Two, Called Meeting, Euless City Council, February 25, 1958) for two weeks vacation annually after one year's continuous service, and 21 calendar days sick leave, not to be accumulative, effective this 25 day of February, 1958.
