HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-06-06EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2024 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Vice Chairperson Jim Hamilton at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in the Conference Room of the library at 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included: Chairperson Jorge Chac, Vice Chairperson Jim Hamilton, Board Members John Lentini, Chris McAllister, Barney Snitz, and Philip Tedone. Board Member Rochelle Ragas was not present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Director Angela Jones, Assistant Library Director Laney James, Administrative Secretary Mollie Myers, Library Services Supervisor Kelly LaBrie, Librarian Assistant 1AM1l0M1 LuAnn Portugal ITEM NO.2 APPROVAL OF LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Vice Chairperson Hamilton asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held on May 2, 2024. The motion was made by Mr. Lentini and seconded by Mr. Snitz. All were in favor and the motion carried. ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS Vice Chairperson Hamilton welcomed all visitors. ITEM NO. 4 LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT ❖ Staff Update/ Highlight Ms. Knight introduced Kelly LaBrie, a Librarian Assistant in the Library Services Department. Ms. LaBrie provided an overview of her 18-year history with the City of Euless and some of the impact she has felt working at the library. Ms. LaBrie shared two of her recent stories of impact. The board thanked Ms. LaBrie for her time and contributions. Mr. Lentini also shared a recent story of impact he experienced while volunteering at the Library. ❖ Library Update Ms. Knight reviewed the latest statistical summaries and provided a brief overview of the Ancestry digital resource. Library Board Minutes, Thursday, June 6, Page 1 of 2 Library Board Minutes, Thursday, June 6, Page 2 of 2 ❖ Classes and Events Update Ms. Knight recounted recent events including the HEB Reads Kickoff Event, which marked the beginning of the Library's Summer Reading Challenge, and Professor Pop's Bubble Show. Ms. Jones gave an overview of upcoming classes and events including the Professor Brainius program, a Peppa Pig themed Story Time, an After -Hours Y2K Night, STEM and Swim Tuesdays, the Read to Me program, and ongoing Computer Classes. Mr. Chac inquired about the STEM kits being provided at the STEM and Swim program. Ms. Jones presented one of the kits to show what staff has handed out at the events. Ms. Jones also informed the board of the recent partnership between the library and the Euless Garden Club, and she invited the board to attend their upcoming meeting regarding sustainable gardening and landscaping. ITEM NO.5 REPORTS ❖ Library Board Chairperson Chairperson Chac inquired about the Senior Center's library, and Ms. Knight explained that it is run by the Senior Center and is separate from the operations of the Euless Library. Ms. Jones provided an overview of the Senior Center Book Group program facilitated by her department. ❖ Library Board Vice Chairperson Vice Chairperson Hamilton reminded the Board of the Euless Today Newsletter and gave an overview of this month's edition, which included information about summer heat safety, library programs, and more. ❖ Library Board Members Mr. Lentini spoke about the success of the library's volunteers who have signed children up for the Summer Reading program. Mr. Lentini commended the library staff's patience and exceptional customer service. ITEM NO.6 PUBLIC COMMENTS Ms. Portugal shared her experiences with the exceptional customer service and culture at the library. Ms. Portugal inquired about the process for planning library programs and Ms. Jones gave an overview of her department's process for creating and executing the special programs and events hosted by the library. ITEM NO.7 ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Chac asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Mr. Lentini and seconded by Mr. McAllister.
