Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, this award was established to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines set by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgets and GFOA's Best Practices on Budgeting to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. I am also proud to announce that the Euless City Secretary's Office has received the Municipal Clerk's Office Achievement of Excellence Award for the third time. Euless was one of 47 municipalities out of over 1000 to achieve this designation this award cycle. The award recognizes excellence in effective and efficient management of resources in a municipal clerk's office. Lastly, I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Council Member Annabel Eads to the Euless City Council. Enjoy the Extensive Park Trails of Euless The Euless park system includes over seven miles of trails. The longest trail begins at 2400 Heritage Avenue (in Glade Parks), and winds through various parks before ending at 1900 Bear Creek Parkway. The trails vary in width, even up to eight feet across, using different materials like concrete and crushed limestone, depending on the location and topography. Many of these trails connect with the system of sidewalks that crisscross throughout the City. These mixed -use trails can be used for biking, walking, jogging, and similar activities. A special feature added along the route is the bike repair station located along the Glade Parks trail near Rio Grande Boulevard. The fully -equipped, bicycle repair station includes all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. Safety Tips Here are some tips to stay safe while using these multi -use trails: • Bicyclists and runners must yield to walkers. • When passing another trail user, speak in a normal voice, and announce your presence. • Bicyclists must be in control at all times. • All trail users must yield before crossing a trail. • Pet leashes should be kept to no more than six feet in length, and you must clean up after your pets. • Stay on open trails and respect private property. Leave no trace and never scare animals. • Stick to lighted paths after dark. These trails are for use by everyone. Please do your part and always be alert, responsible, and courteous. After retiring from a 35-year career at American Airlines, she became active in the Euless community. She is a member of the Euless Citizens Police Academy Alumni, a charter member of the Citizens Fire Academy and a founding member of the Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association. She is the Chair of the Euless Development Corporation, volunteers with the HEB Economic Development Foundation, is on the Board of Directors for the Hurst -Euless -Bedford Chamber Commerce as well as a member of the Northeast Leadership Forum. He is a retired Senior Property Manager for Trinity Interests, and he stays active by assisting them with special projects. Prior to being elected to the City Council, he served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and currently serves on the Euless Development Corporation. He is a member of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Citizens On Patrol, Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association, the Child Abduction Response Team and an inaugural member of the Citizens Emergency Response Team. He is a Senior Consultant for Southwest Airlines. He formerly served on the City's Planning & Zoning Commission and the Euless Parks and Leisure Services Board. He is a member of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, the Citizens Emergency Response Team, a member and Past President of the Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association and a volunteer for the Parks Department. He is a Certified member of the American Society of Cost Segregation Professionals and is currently serving as President of this organization. Prior to being elected to City Council, he served for many years on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and is a past graduate of the Euless Citizens Fire and Police Academy. Eddie is an active member of Cross City Church. He also supports several local ministries including serving on the board of 6 Stones Mission Network. He is a retired Fire Chief, Emergency Management Coordinator and Emergency Medical Services Coordinator for Haltom City. Before serving as a member of the City Council, he was a member of the Euless Planning and Zoning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Euless Crime Control and Prevention District Board and the Euless Citizens Corps Council. He has also served as the Commissioner for the Euless Athletic Association, as well as the President of the Trinit High School Baseball Booster Club. Prior to her election to the City Council, she served two years on the Zoning Board of AdJustment. She is a born and raised North Texan. Originally from Aledo, she earned a degree in Architecture from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and started her career in construction management in Fort Worth. He was born and raised in Nepal where he taught math and accounting at both the high school and college level. He is a small business owner and has lived in Euless since 2007. He is an active volunteer with his home owner's association where he has held various positions, including President, over the past decade. He is a member of the Tax Reinvestment Zone Boards #3 and #4. Ector Drive Please join us for a ceremony to remember the lives of the heroes who were lost during the attack on our nation. The City of Euless is the owner of an artifact from the World Trade Center. The artifact is a 12-foot-long, 6,000-pound steel beam from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. This memorial sits in front of the Euless Fire Administration Building as a memorial to the thousands killed that tragic day. Bark in the Park Saturday, September 28,11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Parks at Texas Star 951 Highland Drive Trinity High School's Girls Awareness Program (GAP) and the Euless Animal Shelter are hosting an adoption and fundraising event. During this time, precious dogs and cats of all ages will be available for adoption for a nominal fee. There will also be GAP T-shirts and merchandise for sale, as well as pet accessories, such as collars and toys. Sales of these items help raise funds for the shelter. This is your chance to open your heart to a deserving pet and maybe find some pet supplies at bargain prices. Upcoming events include Trunk or Treat, Heritage Park Christmas, and more. In the fall, we accept applications for volunteer positions on various boards and commissions to be appointed by the City Council. Time and frequency of meetings vary, depending upon the board or commission on which you serve. For volunteer opportunities, please visit the City's website. Have You Checked out the Library Lately? School is back in session, so now is a good time to take advantage of all the services and resources that the Euless Public Library has available to you. Your local library caters to people of all ages, and a free library account offers educational and entertaining opportunities for everyone. From borrowing books and e-books, to getting homework help, j ob-searching assistance, learning new skills, or attending early literacy classes with your little ones, the library helps you do more of what you enjoy. CPR Blitz Applications Wanted Does your home or yard need reviving? Have you considered CPR? The Community Powered Revitalization (CPR) program is a j oint effort between 6 Stones, and the cities of Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Grapevine, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and churches to help struggling homeowners make necessary home repairs. The CPR program provides help to homeowners who are in the greatest need of assistance and are unable to perform the necessary work themselves. The next CPR event is October 18 and 19, so get your applications in today.
